MP3 Ringtones

Has anyone been able to get an MP3 file to work as a ringtone on their 6100?

I've been able to get midi files to work. I figured out if you record a voice note, you can set that as a ringtone (so the phone is capable of paying digitized audio as a ring tone).

When I send an mp3 file to the phone though, it doesn't play. At some point i was going to try a few other audio formats (like .wav, .m4p).

Can anyone share what they've been successful doing?

Thx - TheMaxDaddy

my wife and i hold our phones up to blasting stereo speakers and record voicenotes and set them as our ringers. sometimes they sound good, sometimes they sound crappy and you delete them and try something else. i wonder if theres any way to use a simple wire from a headphone output on a stereo to the headset input on the phone and record voicenotes clear as a bell?

poor mans ringtones.

I have a wire that goes from a headphone output on my home CD player that goes to the headset input. It came with some vTech home phones that I purchased last month. I am going to try them tonight on the VX6100 phones. I will post my results soon. I have done this kind of transfer from my CD player to my home phones and the sound quality is great. On my CD player, I have a volume control to the headphone output which I had to adjust to make it sound just right for the home phones. I anticipate the same kind of issue for the VX6100's.

I saw a note on Howardforums that you need to title your mp3 with a .mid, but that it would then work.

deguardo could you please elaborate on this, ive been successful in getting .mid files on my phone but at 16khz i think so its low quality high distortion, the 48 might sound better so how do you that

I was finally successful at uploading MP3 ringtones. I used a program I originally bought so I could manipulate my MP3 collection. It's called GoldWave (www.goldwave.com). You can extract a selection from an MP3, fade in, fade out, change the bitrate and freqency (I'm using 16 bit 44100hz 705kbps mono) and it's working great. Just change the extension to .mid and send to your phone via vzwpix.com. You have to have software that will properly manipulate the MP3 though. Works a lot better than holding your phone up to your stereo speakers!

Hey I wanted to know how or what cable I would need to connect from my phone to my p.c. to save the ringtone onto my phone. I am now using Goldwave and saved the selected song for my ringtone. Where can I purchase this cable if need be, and how is it done, what would you suggest?

Has there been any success trying to send the ringtone from the GoldWave program to the phone w/o the cable? I've unsuccessfully received it on my phone. Is there anyway to send the ringtone to the phone w/o the cable? If there is, please get back to me if anyone has the answer.

Please...

Use the search function for this forum...

Use the keyword "ringtone" (without the quotes)

And start reading...

This question has been answered several times already, in depth and in detail...

...I'm sorry but having the same question asked over and over again on a forum gets really old...

Okay, we're going to have to step back a minute here, and help the challegned folk who have no idea how to do something here.

I see from other posts that you folks are talking about doing stuff with the phone, i.e. downloading MP3's to your phone and the like.

Sounds nifty, but what type of equipment does one need to do such a thing? Standard USB cable? Because I have less than no clue how to go about that...

If anyone could kinda walk me thru the process, that would be exceptional. Thanks!

Get a USB cable from Ebay, should be around $10.00 plus shipping.

Then goto http://www.bitpim.org/

Download the latest version 7.23 software.

Works great..... COntacts, pictures, ringtones and schedule.
