Voicemail Config

The initial configuration of the voicemail settings on the VX6100 is to dial *86.

The VM literature from Verizon says this only works when you're on-network. When you're off-network, you must dial your own number.

So, wouldn't it make more sense to just dial your own number all the time instead of having to remember these details?

To that end, I created a contact entry just for that.

I noticed that speed dial button #1 is automatically associated with "Voicemail", which was defined as *86.

I couldn't find where this was defined, so I just changed speed dial #1 to point to the contact entry I created.

Later, I found where "Voicemail" is defined. Under the Messages menu, option 7. So I changed this from *86 to my own number....

After trial and error, found some answers...

Any idea how to re-associate speed dial #1 with the built-in "Voicemail" entry?

Removing the the entry from speed dial #1 restores it to "Voicemail".

Now, when I get a voicemail, the phone asks me if I want to listen. When I say yes, it says it's connecting to "Voicemail", but it's still dials *86, not my number. IOW, it's not seeing the change I made to the "Voicemail" setting in the Messages menu.

Power cycling the phone seemed to solve this.

egoldsmith - how exactly did you change the voice mail setting? Did you change the setting and turn the phone off then on again, and that fixed it? Any special instructions? Thanks!

Yes 😉

I made the change via Menu->Messages->Msg Settings->Voice Mail #. Then power cycled the phone.

Follow up ...

It seems the phone pays attention to the value stored in "Voice Mail #", and uses it correctly only if voice mail is waiting when the phone is turned on.

However, if a call results in voice mail while the phone is on, the phone appears to ignore the value stored in "Voice Mail #" and overrides it with *86.

This behavior is seen when using the "Listen" option on the new voice mail indication screen.

Bummer.

This is a poorly thought our function that LG has had on their phones for some time now. Had the same problem with my LG510, 4500 and now also on the 6100. The best way to deal with it is to consider the built in "Voice Mail" retrieval function as useless, that is unless you like punching a bunch of prompts after you command or enter "Voice Mail".

God I miss my good old Nokia!! LG seems to just not take much input from the public and a two week test period from Verizon is just too little time when phones have to be field tested by subscribers. To date, both of my my shiny new 6100s have: volume problems, signal problems, and battery charging problems and my two weeks are up!!

Anybody got insight into Cingular and GSM? I'm about ready t...

FOR VX6100
To change your V.M. #, go to:

Menu -> Message -> Msg Setting -> Edit voice mailbox number

Try: 12145551234T#2222# or 12145551234T2222#

where 2145551234 is your phone number and 2222 is your voice mail password.

When you hit and hold speed dial 1 it will get you right into vm without your doing anything else

kirbinster---

Unfortunately, while you can enter numbers, there does not appear to be any mechanism to enter letters, so I could not enter the letter "T" directed in your message. Any idea how to do this?

While entering the number, press the Right Soft Key (Pause). Select Hard Pause (P) or 2-sec Pause (T).

Thanks Terravita. I was able to input as shown. But the previous message was erroneous in that inserting the initial "1" is not required.
