No. They do look similar, but this design is from the Samsung SGH-P735, which is in turn from Samsung's SCH-V420 and SPH-V4200 models for Korea.
Those Korean models have been out for a while, so if anything, the copying would be the other way around, although I don't think that's what happened either.
Despite the similar look, they are different. The LG is designed that way to make room for the large, high-quality speaker. The Samsungs are designed that way to make room for the megapixel camera module, and also to allow for the unique "swing" action, which the LG doesn't do:

This will be a hott phone. Although some of you do not like change, many times change aids in the technology. Some people did not like the enlagred phones with expansion slots. The expansion slots allow so much more to be put into the phone.
The phone features look really good, but one large question. Since the 1xEV-DO is launching this summer, why are they not implementing it into the newer phones? It would make sense, seeing as this phone will not be out for a year at least, its VZW.
