Significance of Locked or Unlocked

So tell me if I got this right. Having a locked phone doesnt really matter unless you travel outside the U.S. frequently, where you would need to have it unlocked in order to use a different SIM card. Im going to buy the V3 and want to make sure I have all the info before I do. Thanks.

Having it unlocked means you can switch sim cards at any time, within the U.S. or outside. Within the U.S., you could, for instance, use the phone with T-Mobile (another GSM carrier) if you choose to. It just gives you more options

I bought an unlocked phone...its impossible to access the internet unless you subscribe to a european internet service...spoke with moto tech cingular tech with no good results ...under web servers there is no choice to add a new service...moto says phone will send and receive calls but not access internet...not supported here in us

I can confirm this information to be true. I have spoken with great length with a Moto tech in Schaumberg about this. I could have bought an unlocked V3 (or any other GSM equipment) however, I was warned about the loss of internet connectivity. There may be a work-around out there from some hacker but of course Moto will not divulge that information.
