Again, you are incorrect. The phones are locked by the manufacturer, by request of the service provider. The SIM card has NOTHING to do whether the phone is locked or unlocked. They call this a "Subsidy Lock", meaning that phone will only work with that provider who gets the phones. Thanks for making it clear...as you said...it's placed by the manufacturer as requested by the service provider...that's exactly what i mean by the a service provider lock. Anyway, this still doesn't answer my question of whether the phone is really locked or not cause you hear on this forum that is it and it's not.
Okay, I will determine myself...is there is return policy? What is it? I will just go and get the phone, bring it home and insert my cousin's T-mobile sim card and see what happens.

I agree with you, as helpful as people are trying to be, just because Motorolas have been unlocked before doesn't mean this one will be. This is a signature phone with a 100 day exclusive sale agreement that Cingular paid boku dollars for.
If you buy it and it IS locked, unless you have a trip planned within the next month, why not wait till the hysteria over this phone is over, go back, and get it unlocked. Or just keep following this forum - someone will post it.
OR, buy it with a new #, keep your current unlocked phone as an additonal "family plan" phone, pay $20 (or $10) a month and use that phone when you travel to place calls.
