Palm Treo 650 (CDMA)
EV-DO version of Treo 650?
seems to make sense that Verizon would skip the 650 and just tell PalmOne to develop a model that can use the new 3G network.
i have read that upgrading a 1xRTT network is merely a software thing, no new hardware required. basically, i am wondering if this is also the case regarding the actual handsets.
i'm pretty sure that the CDMA radio module in the treo 650 was made by one of the well-known companies in that space, like airprime or maybe sierra wireless? does anyone with more technical knowledge know if either of those companies makes an EV-DO module? if they don't, i would think it's very unlikely that the treo 650 can support EV-DO...and therefore more unlikely that Verizon will eventually carry it.

You also needs several key pieces of hardware at each Ev-DO enabled cell site to be able to function correctly. Also, the site needs extra capacity to be able to handle the high speed data.
So whomever said that the 650 is Ev-DO compatible is wrong. The 650 is a high end 1x-RTT (aka 3G) device. It is NOT Ev-DO compatible.
At this point in time, there is only one (1) known live Ev-DO handset (there are several air cards out there) in use. The LG-8000
Good luck !
