MP3 ringtones
A few friends of mines have this phones that can be used as MP3 players, Now can those also be used as ring tones? and if so how do you or can you send mp3 files to your cell phone? We tried sending 30 second clips that are only about 235kb in size to the phone through yournumber@tmomail.net, but each time the message comes through but the attachment which is the mp3 file is dropped. Does anyone know how to do this? thanks

you transfer them via bluetooth or cable. cingular has a habit of crippling the firmware which does allow mp3s to be used as ringtones (my 6230 allows it, my cingular branded 6620 firmware does not, the generic 6620 firmware does allow it).

You can actually change the format so that the 6620 does allow it. I use itunes to convert it to AAC format and you can then have it as your ringtone.

yep, im aware of that, it's just a pain in the ass since i already have every cd i own in mp3 format. just an extra step to deal with to circumvent a stupid restriction cingular chose to implement. common sense should tell their marketing group that the sort of people that own this phone will just circumvent it rather than buy tones from them. the screen on my 6620 went dead over the weekend, so i shipped it to nokia today also asking they flash it to non branded firmware. they probably can't (or won't) but it couldn't hurt to ask.

Now I can't even convert them to AAC format and have them play on my phone, because it isn't naming it mp4. It's naming it some other crap ☹️

I made about six mp3 ringers and transfered them to my 6682 via Bluetooth and have no problems assigning them as ringers, for groups or individuals.
When they are transfered, they are storeed on the phone in Gallery under "tracks".
If you want to put your own ringers on any phone, I would recommend either Bluetooth or a card reader.
You can also transfer them with Noika PC suite(free download at Nokia.com) and the included usb cable.
Hope this helps

I'm not sure I agree, here. I just got the phone yesterday and have uploaded a few MP3 files to the phone.
You can see them, and even assign them as ringtones, but when I do, the phone defaults to playing the standard Nokia ring tone... it doesn't play the MP3 file assigned.

Mine plays the mp3 tones.

are they from walmart.com?

Huh, I assume that is a joke. I either find free on the net, download to my pc, BT to phone or create my own.
