Cingular sys "NO" to tethering

I read in one of the news groups (alt.binaries.cingular) that Cingular has updated their legal disclaimer.

If they try to pull me out of Media.NET for this, I will certainly leave. Why else did I sign up with Cingular? Because all the other bluetooth phones out there are crippled to death. When I signed up, this was not part of the agreement, so I DISAGREE.

Anyways, FYI:

" MEdia Net packages are not available on PDAs, RIM devices, or PC card modems. MEdia Net packages are not intended for tethering. Some of us here have been trying to give folks the correct info.

You get a much better experience when you have a true data plan on your account anyway.

MEdiaNet and the data connect plans are very different when it comes to how they are handled by the network.

MEdiaNet is provision over the wap gateway, where all the phone data is carried, is compressed(images not as sharp), and the speed is slower.

Data connect plans are provisioned over the isp gateway which is more robust and faster.

And MUCH more expensive. Isn't an unlimited data plan going for like $40 or $80? I don't even pay that much for my broadband connection, never mind paying that much for 100kB speed (just a little faster than dial-up).

At those prices I'd go with Verizon's EV-DO.

Come on Cingular, what are you thinking? Next step let's cripple the bluetooth. 👿

But your broadband isn't mobile. It's at your home. What you are paying for is convenience.

How much do you pay for unlimited "data"? What is the speed difference? I've clocked my connection at it's max at 100kbps using www.speakeasy.net 's speed test.

Any other special perks?

I just plugged into the net with my PC over the bluetooth and ran the test. I also tried it using the nokia USB cable also. Same results.

Actually they just put the unlimited to $59.99 if you add it before the end of the year on a 2yr contract.

Wow, what a rip off. Verizon is offering the same thing at the same price, but the spead is a fafillion times faster.

"$59.99 monthly access w/ 2-yr customer agreement and qualifying voice plan

Download complex files and large email attachments easily at average speeds of 400- 700 kbps, capable of bursts up to 2 Mbps.” "

Maybe I was wrong to sign up with Cingular.
