OK Icy, it seems you are correct.
I have a 32k in my 6682, no issues.
I took the 64k out of my Treo 650, put it in the 6682, made some calls and the call logs were not there after a power cycle.

Really, this doesn't merit another thread.

I think it DOES. The previous was getting a little cluttered.

Thanks SO9257, I was about to turn on the flame thrower.

Esentially Nokia needs to know this info. I've called and at least the person I talked to had no idea.
...
What is the downside or limitation that results from using the 32k sim?

OK, here is another question. Does anybody have the Cingular firmware UNLOCKED with the 64K SIM Card.
The main difference between the unbranded firmware and the Cingular custom firmware is that the SIM Card is locked. Since we have already figured out that the SIM Card is causing this error, I'm guessing that the problem lies in the SIM Card locking algorithm.
If anybody out there has a Cingular branded phone that later received the IMEI unlocking code and can tell us if they have the bugs listed....then we are that much closer.
BTW, would anybody be willing to give me the unlocking code for my stroke of genius?

Called Nokia last week, a supervisor called me back and stated, "you need to send the phone in for repair". I asked if they knew what the problem was, he said "yes", and your phone will need to be reflashed for the software???????? Two days earlier, they didn't even know the problem existed......hmmmmm???????
...
I hope they flash it and not Cingular.
...
Actually, if they did flash Cingular, it might provide better service. J/k ;)
...
IMO, this could be good news. If they know the problem, and solution (or at least think they do), then maybe it won't be too long til the phone becomes available again thru cingular...
...
Or until they upgrade the F/W, at least...

Well that is why I think this is good news. If they are indeed telling people that they need to send their phones in for repair, and that they know what the problem is, I assume (yeah...I know the risks of assuming) that this might mean that they HAVE a fix too...or are at least testing a fix...
So hopefully they have a new firmware revision that they can slap on these phones so those of us who hesitated can get one before the next greatest thing hits the streets...
...
Well I am glad I didn't hesitate, and got this phone when I did. It will get worked out, I feel confident in that. I find it very interesting (and yes, satisfying) that in the article that was referred to a few posts back, referenced a post that I made here.
And yes I am already saving my quarters, because about this time next year, there will be a wonderful upgrad to this phone.

vpu2, can you let us know when your phone comes back if it is:
1. Cingular custom fw or not.
2. SIM locked
If this is how they "fix" it, I'm getting mine "fixed"

What exactly did you and your stroke of genius actually do, besides significantly reducing your chances of getting any questions you have here answered. In other words, Mrdeth slide over. You now have company.

I am bad company, there you go again poopin on the little guy

32k Cingular simm cards are being sold on eBay... just in case Nokia is not able to solve the 64k simm problem. I bought one for my 6682 for $6.94

Thought I would post about my sim saga, trying to get a 32k sim from Cingular. I had one ordered and they sent my a 64k. Called last night and ordered another 32k. The gal didn't bother to tell me it was on backorder. I found out this morning when I went there to checkthe status of my order. So...
I just won an auction at eBay for a Cingular 32k sim. $7 and only 1.95 shipping.
Someone tried to snake me in the last 15 secs. (I was watching) but I had my max bid set up to 10.50 So, coming from N.Y. USPS... hopefully have it Mon. or Tue. Even though Cingular isn't charging me for the 32k sim, I can't trust them as to when, if ever, I would receive it.
There are a lot of Cing 32k sims on eBay, if anyone is looking for one. Jus...

So when you get this 32k sim, do you have to talk to Cingular to get your phone# activated on the card??? I'm kind of in the dark as to how it works.
Thanks.
...
Yes, call from a phone other than the cell and give them the 20 digit number on the card.
It should begin with 89014
...
I have some experience on ebay and I always bid at the last minute. Otherwise you might get some Yahoo that is ready to sell his shirt to get your item and he bids you over your limit.
The best system, if you are not around to count down to the last second and click your bid is www.esnipe.com
With this website you dial in your ebay item with your highest bid that you would be willing to pay for it and it automatically bids for you at 6 seconds to go. That way you get your bid in at the last moment and nobody has a chance to go to war over it with you and get the price up. I think I pay like .25 a shot for them to do that which is a great thing when you have to be at work or something and cannot be around to watch the clock. 😎

After reading all the posts on that link, one guys said he had the 3004 SIM card and he still has the problems. His name was clogsdon. So I am still sticking with the theory that only a 32k or FW upgrade will fix the MINOR (IMO) glitches..
...
CLOct 8, 2005, 9:06 AM
I'm clogsdon. 😁 Wrangler's post is hard to follow. His profile says he has a 6620, so I presumed his wife had the 6682 with the 3004. I thought he was saying he took his 3002 out of his 6620 and put it into his wife's 6682.
But, later in his post he says the newer one (presumably the 3004) worked and the older one (presumable the 3002) didn't.
So, it is confusing.
How did you interpret his post?
...
I interpreted it as him saying the 3004 worked and the 3002 didn't. I have a 3002 and 3003. I still have the glitches with both of those.

I have just discovered that the 32k sim cards are market related. At least that is what I am hearing. My friend from Tennessee is mailing the one she has for me but according to CS it will not work. When I get it on Tuesday I will take it to my local Cingular store and ask those guys what they think. If you buy from EBAY I would suggest emailing the seller and ask which market the SIMS they are selling is for. There is a chance it will not work.

...
Yeah, I have some reservations about whether it will work or not for my market area. But for 8.95 including shipping, I figured it was worth a shot. Most sellers of soms on eBay recommend checking with Cing for your area whether or not it will work. The one I bought gave some numbers for the sim but I didn't check. Time restricted if I wanted to win the auction.
...
If sims are local then wouldn't your phone fail if you traveled to another market? It seems like an unworkable network model, but increasingly nothing Cingular does is a total surprise.
I have ordered a 32k sim on Ebay but am now uncomfortable about installing it because we have to disable the 64k to activate the 32k and if it does not work, my phone is dead...
...
the person I spoke with at Cingular said I could reactivate my 64k sim if need be. Whether he is right or not, I'm not sure. I have read a few posts here saying once a sim is deactivated it is "dead".
