I have the unlimited data plan supposedly including EDGE with cingular. When I found my network status it only listed GPRS. when I asked my local cingular rep I was told that cingular has written EDGE into their GPRS and therefore are one and the same. my on-line speed is usually 25Kbs and 40Kbs on my 6682 when I have a good signal. web sites seem to load slow. was the rep blowing smoke or am I expecting to much

EDGE is installed and running on all Cingular owned towers.

If you phone does not have EDGE, you connect at GPRS speeds.

If your phone has EDGE, it connects via EDGE, while on the networtk.

Proximity to the tower, terrian, weather, large trees, buildings etc. will have an effect on how strong you signal is.

I think gprs would give you like 5Kbps. Try the speedtest here:

May I ask, what command did you use to find out if your phone was using Edge or not?

Also, I noticed that I achieve two different speeds in different cities. I live in central CA, Modesto specifically, and I achieve about 64-80kbps and when I went to Sacramento this weekend I found that I was getting about 120-160kbps.

Does anyone else notice this?

There is no visual indicator, nor is there any way to select one or the other on the 6682.

They only current device I know of with an EDGE indicator, are the later model Moto v551

EDGE speeds will vary with network traffic, terrian, proximity to the tower and so on.

I remembered wrong trying to find it again I realized it was when I first got service w/ cingular and it was my treo 650 which I had for just a couple of days not the nokia. Sorry for the confusion. My speed has gotten no faster though with the 6682. I am sorry for the confusion, been dealing w/ cingular on so many issues...
