Alternative to Firmware Upgrade????

I just got off the phone with a Cingular tech, and in light of what I've been reading re: Cingulars new firmware, I asked her for a phone exchange. She then told me that they have to "trouble shoot" prior to authorizing a replacement. She then instructed me to remove the battery while the phone was still powered on (she called it a software reset). So I do....and much to my surprise, the call log was still there and NO prompt to save Sim contacts!!! I even powered it off in the traditional manner twice more, and it worked!! Has anyone tried this, and if so is this a permanent fix??? she warned me that there is a chance that anything not saved on my Mem card may be deleted, however everything was still in tact! It's been "my" experience with this phone, that "sometimes" even without doing the "softwre" reset, the phone won't always lose the call logs or ask to copy contacts to sim......

I've heard that the new 3G sim also addresses the issue, which in my experience seemed to be true, but I must admit, I only had the 3G sim a couple days, and didn't really do a lot of testing (this sim, actually had WORSE to NO reception in areas that my other sim has no problems). Keep in mind they are both 64K sims, one is for the 310 network (one of cingulars 4 networks) and one is for the western U.S. The 3G sim which is cingulars "all over netowrk" when then finish tying the central 170, easter 150 & AT&T's 0380 & the western 310 networks together as "ONE" n...

I've tested the 3G sim & 2 of the 3 issues I had went away. I do still get the issue where it turns off then back on. Hey, if you are having reception issues, pick your network. You can do this now with the new sim. But when you get the choices, pick the second cingular on the list. It's better....

I did this a while back (also suggested by a cingular support), but a couple days after I did, the problems came back.

I have been trouble-free the last couple of weeks somehow though. I didn't do anything except change my mem card.

Strange...
