I got in touch with the Cingular Warranty exchange folks on Tue., Jan. 3, through the phone number graciously provided in a previous thread. The Cingular rep was very helpful (they are apparently located in South Dakota) and was aware of the issues with the 6682. Being only about 2 hrs. away from Ft. Worth, TX (where the warranty exchange phones are shipped out from), I elected to do the free ground service. Once the replacement phone is received, you have 14 days to return your original phone or be charged for the original full price paid (in my case, that's $210). I was told that in all likelihood that the phone would be a refurb, but could return it if it "did not meet my expectations." So I asked if that includes cosmetic problems, or ge...

got my phone through warranty exchange and got the old firmware..so i called warranty exchange and the lady had no clue..she made me do software restart ..hard restart..etc etc..i told her thats not gonna fix it and told her about the new firmware and she said we r not aware of that problem. what the hell is going on here??
...
ok update..i talked to a supervisor and he said there is no way they can tell which phones r being sent out. so bascially they cannot be sure if its the new firmware or not thats being sent out.. they r gonna send me another one and hopefully i get the new one and if not ill deal with my old phone.
...
I got the same story from the rep I dealt with, that's why I asked if I could return it if the firmware was old. So I'll guess we'll see what happens.

I too, got a phone from warranty exchange, and it TOO had the old firmware.....I spoke with some smuckatelli they are paying way to much money too, cause they're basically dumber thand a f'ing doorknob......
She said, you can download the firmware from nokia....... WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1. If you could download the firmware, you would still need the cable and software to install it......
2. You'll probably VOID the warranty, if it's not done by a factory trained rep......
Be careful, if some jabroni should advise you, like this........ Someone might suggest, I'll call tomorrow, to see about my firmware issue again, that they have a way to locate the new firmware phones......like putting a different designator on the box......whew...

I bought my phone the very next day it came out, through Nokia's authorized seller-with Cingular service. Most every problem mentioned in the forums, I had in the short 2-months I had the phone.
Cingular's warranty/exchange department was sooo not helpful. The rep I spoke with had absolutely no clue as to what I was referring to-but alas, they did offer to assist me with and exchange. She said they would ONLY offer me a RAZR or a Siemens (which has also been discontinued). Even though the features offered by Siemens and Moto are far less substantial, this was all they would do...
I sold the phone on ebay and got exactly what I paid for it, to a techy who loved the phone and wanted it no matter what.

Sounds like I got one of the few decent reps on my call then. Now, to be honest, he didn't "sound" aware of the problems with the 6682 until I heard some keypunching going on in the background, and then he said something like "yes, we are aware of the issues you are reporting and would be glad to exchange your phone." I guess it's how lucky you are when you call, but I shouldn't speak too soon because I don't have a 6682 with the latest firmware in hand yet!
...
yeah just wait till u get the phone..i sent my warranty phone back and getting a new one soon hopefully the new firmware. but like vpu2 said those people there r idiots...complete morons...the lady i had was reading off a paper step by step on what to do if this happens etc..again she had me do the software restart and all. she was not aware of the issues...what a bunch of crock these people r..just send me the new firmware and i will be happy ...is that so hard???!!!!
...
I put a new 3G sim card in & the issues I was having went away. But in the 2.5 months it took for my phone to get restocked at the warranty exchange, the phone reboots whenever. So I exchanged it...no issues so far. And transfering everything was a delight!
...
yeah i thought the 3g sim fixed the probs but it didnt ..at first it wasnt erasing the call ogs etc..but now it does.

I received my Cingular "Warranty Exchange" phone just a few minutes ago. It is still Cingular branded and has the following:
Firmware: 4.62.0
28-10-05 (is this the build date of the firmware?)
RM-58
It only took 2 days to get it shipped to me, but again, I'm only about 120 miles from the distribution center in Ft. Worth, TX. The phone has absolutely no cosmetic blemishes at all. I would say it is a brand new phone. Even the screen protector is on. One thing I did notice. When I would turn on my old phone, the Nokia startup sound had a hiccup that caused a very brief pause right in the middle of the sound itself. That doesn't happen when turning on the new phone. Next, I'll charge it up and let you know if the usual problems persist....

I called warranty exchange again today, let them know I was really po'd at some "doorknob" trying to instuct me to download the firmware, and gave the WHY's of "you shouldn't do that".....
OF COURSE, she (a manager mind you) HAD NO IDEA there was a problem with the phone, the new firmware, NOT A CLUE......
I walked her to phonescoop.com, OUR FORUM, and cingulars forum......OH LOOK it does say something about that......yadda....yadda....yadda...... She also stated they didn't have anyway way of knowing which ones contained the new firmware....
I then gave her a crash coarse in how to get the firmware version from a phone......but told her, she'd probably be far better off contacting someone, who knows something, and have NOKIA someho...

I got a good hour in on charging and decided to get to work with moving over all the contents of my old phone. First, let me say the startup sound hiccup is gone. I always thought this was caused by the phone's processor being too slow to generate the sound. Now, there's no hiccup and I can tell you the phone is noticeably faster....not lightning fast, but certainly faster than the old phone/firmware. Applications load faster and scrolling through the contacts is faster. I performed a restore backup from my 512MB memory card and the process was flawless. It even dumped over the TomTom Mobile that was installed. So far, there's been no "Copy to Sim Card" problems and everything seems to be ok with the new firmware.
...
Been using the new firmware for a few days now and haven't had a single problem. My 6682 is rock solid and is the phone it should have always been!
