T-MobileWeb on MDA

Does anyone know a way to make T-MobileWeb or T-zones work on the MDA? I don't need the full T-Mobile Internet package because most of my internet use will be done over Wi-Fi, but I do want to continue to have on-demand access for light use. If I have to pay $20+/month for a service I can get for $5 I think I'll have no option but to return the MDA and either switch to a non "smart" phone and pair it with a Bluetooth PDA or change carriers.

There is no way to get the t-zones to work with it... If you think you can find another carrier that is going to offer you an full access internet package for $5.00 then you are wrong...

I don't want full access internet, I just want T-zones to work for basic browsing. I have full access internet at home and at work, I'm just looking for something to cover my commute between the two. 🙂

As a SmartAccess subscriber, the Total Internet package isn't even available so it's T-zones or nothing. The question is how to make T-zones work on an MDA. ...and I found a way: You simply have to configure the connection to use a WAP proxy. It means it won't work for everything, and it's not 100% reliable, but it's better than nothing.

As for other Carriers: My girlfriend has a PPC6600 with a Sprint Vision plan and she's getting unlimited messaging and internet for $15... I'm not sure if the unlimited messaging comes with the pack...

I found a solution! (Thank you HoFo!)

It appears that the problem with the "cheap" internet packages is that T-Mobile has blocked port 80 (and several others) making it impossible to browse to http: pages. Regular phones are able to view the web because the WAP protocol runs on another port. T-Mobile customer service was clueless as to any way to make WAP pages work on a Windows Mobile device, however Windows Mobile 5.0 is capable of viewing both WAP and HTTP pages so the trick is to simply configure your device to use another port to get to these pages. You can accomplish this via a proxy as follows:

1. Go back to settings -> connections
2. Click on "manage existing connections"
3.You should see the connection you created in the ...

Yes, it does work, but you have to have T-zones added to your account. Simply have them add the feature to your account. You will not be able to use T-Zones, but the steps provided will give you full internet access. I have tested this on two MDA's with and without T-Zones, and it does indeed work.
