Recieved my Treo 700 about 3 weeks ago, use it for business and e-mailing mostly. I entered all my appointments and times that I would be meeting with people at a trade show in vegas (Sia Snow Show) any how I live in Detroit so when I got to vegas all my times in my calendar were set back 3 hours... For instant my 9:00 appointment was reset to 6:00. This happen to every single appointment. I called Palm and they could not help me. Anyone else had this problem traveling accross time zones?

I even tried to change the clock to Visting Setting with the right time zone.. Still the same...

I returned home and poof magic all my times came back to the right time.

This is defently a problem. I travel to different timezones alot and I ...

Think about it. You set the appointments during your time right? So when you changed time zones you everything changed back 3 hours. Even though you changed the visiting time zone it si still the same way but when you go home everything changes back.

I could be wrong but this is a no brainer and they should have known this.

You set the appointments during your time zone so they will always be set back or forward based on the time zone you travel in.

If while in your home time zone you set the appontment to the time zone you will be in during that appointment (Let's say 5pm eastern time but you set the appointment to 2pm pacific that you will be in) then while in your home time zone the time will be 2pm or 3 hours difference compare...

Appointment times should be a fixed time. Now I could see that if you change the time zone on the home or visiting clock your idea would make sense.

But when I was in the Pacific time zone and changed the clock to say Pacific time zone my info did not change!

You have good thought however it just does not make since that I should have to trick the phone to bring up the right time. The Appointment times should never change to begin with.

Don't you have a setting in the phone while making a new appointment which allows you to specify the time zone that it is in?

There is a clock setting. Home clock you can set it to your time zone, there is an away clock that you can set to the time zone you are in. However I tried changing that and that did not fix the problem while I was there..

This has to be a BUG that everyone overlooked.

Actually, it's supposed to be a feature, not a bug. In essence, the phone is trying to keep the absolute time of the appointment, not the relative time. I don't believe you can turn it off. Also, I'm pretty sure it would be Microsoft, not Palm that would be able to best answer your questions about this feature (it appears to be a feature of WM5).

As far as solving your problem, though, the way around it is to first change your time setting to Visiting the time zone where you will be conducting the appointment. Then add the appointment as normal. Then disable the Visiting Setting.

For example, if you are in the EST, and you will have an appointment at 5:00pm on Friday in the PST, you must first change your time settings to Visiti...

Well I just tested that and you are correct.

But I will have to test that when I go to another time zone, but so far you are correct.

Thanks for your info. Seems like a long way around to put in an appointment but seem logical I guess.

I have had this problem for sometime, and researched it as far as I could. The problem is definitely with Microsoft, not Palm.

When Outlook stores appointments, it stores it using Greenwich Mean Time. It is then displayed using an offset based upon what timezone is set on the device (this is true whether it's on your laptop OR your Treo). So if you are on PST and set an appointmnet for 9am, it will display as noon if you go to NY and set your clock to EST.

The best workaround I have found is to disable the automatic timeset function on the Treo. That way it always displays time based upon my homebase, and appointments always display appropriately no matter where I am.

This can get a bit confusing if you use the Treo for alarms (...
