Motorola i580
Looking for a good speaker!
I'm itching to buy this phone especially because they went back to the front mounted speakers. I've had the i90, i730, and now the i870. Of them, I liked the i90, but the i730 wasn't too bad. The 870 isn't that great from my impressions.
My question is, can someone solidify the quality of the newly positioned speakers of this phone? Did it really make a difference? Or should I go back to the i730?

usability on other networks/providers?
would it be possible to use this phone with another provider? Where I live, Nextel's coverage is miserable, but the phones offered by my carrier are ridiculously crippled and fragile.
I understand that you can unlock phones so that they will work with any SIM card, but does that only work when using the same type of network (CDMA, GSM, IDEN)?
apologies for my lack of tech knowledge- my razr died a horrible, unceremonious death and I'm only just learning about most of this stuff.

Does this really have an mp3 player
Does the i580 really have a mp3 player? I talked to a nextel salesman and he said yes it does but the sales representatives on nextel.com says it doesnt. So does it or doesnt it. Im looking at the i870 but I really want the i580 because it looks sweet and I want the mp3 player. Someone please help.

Anyone that has one - Keypad volume help
I just got the 580 and like it a lot. The only thing I can't figure out is the keypad volume. I have the level set to zero, but it still changes with my actual speaker level. If anyone else has this problem, with your main volume on 7 (or so), turn your keypad to zero and let me know if it turns the keypad off when you dial. I just need to know if it's a defect in my phone.

I can't find any of the new PTT features that were supposed to be included with the i580. Can anyone help

i checked out this phone at my local sprint store ... ITS A FREAKIN BRUT!!!! its pretty thick but still, for those construction workers or people who drop their phone alot, this phone is perfect! its tough as nails!

Custom ringtones?
I got my i580 on Saturday and haven't figured out how to install a ringtone that I have made on it yet. I've tried downloading from a WAP server in a couple different ringtone formats and none of them work. Anyone know how to do this?

Now Available
As of today 7/2, the i580 is available on the Nextel web site. You can also check out the entire instruction book on the site as well. Some stores (at least where I am in CT) do not have the phone yet however I was told that they will be getting it any day now. But I just couldn't wait and ordered one off the site.
It says this phone is an mp3 player but there are no buttons on the front like the 870
is there an internal mp3 player? how do people go about adding/listening to songs?

How often can I upgrade phones?
I bought the i870 last December. I want to give the phone to my girlfriend, after I buy the i580. We are on the same account. She bought the i710 last April or May. Can I get the good price for the i580 when it comes out?

670 released, 580 not!!
this morning the i670 was announced to be released on 6/18 with a 2yr price of 99.99 with a mail in rebate of 50.00, making the final price 49.99. will be available for order on Mon. 6/19.
on the other hand the 580 looks to be released on 7/2, we do have another launch call on 6/21 discussing the 7/2 promotions. i will post on that after we have it.

Question about the i670?
When they did the report on the i580, they also showed the i670. When you try to look that phone up in phonescoop, they say no phone exists. 😕 Isn't it supposed to be release on the 18th?? That is what I heard. It just seems weird that phonescoop has the i580 on their site and not the i670. So I was just wondering if the i670 is coming out on 6/18/2006 like I heard...let me know if you have any information. Thanks!! 😎
