cannot establish connection with active sync

I was having trouble with my alarm going off ;every single time i turned it on or had to reset. I was able to resolve it after coming across a thread that discussed deleting duplicate entries in the device using the memmaid software. This worked fine, but I have not been able to sync up with my pc since then. I don't know if one thing has anything to do with the other, but I was sure not to delete eny entries other then the duplicate ones. I've tried teh trouble shooting and so on and no dice.
