Hi everyone,
I have the silver enV where the orange button says "Email." I know that on the Orange enV, this button says "enV" and is customizable. But I've heard that the firmware versions on the silver and orange are exactly the same.
So how exactly is the "enV" button programmed if it's not in the firmware, and how can we do this on the silver enV?
...
That's a good question...I think it's just an actual feature/function of the phone and not necessarily part of the firmware. Besides, it's not like the enV button on the orange enV phone really gives you any shortcuts to anything useful it's only shortcuts to things such as VCast video, video messaging, picture messaging, etc. Not functions such as the notepad, calculator, etc. These are features you can get to by just hitting the messaging buttoin once or even the left side of the 4-waey navigation button once. Not too useful if you ask me. Sure, the Orange enV comes w/ 2 demo games and shortcuts to those games, but what happens when those games do expre and you don't want to buy them? They pretty much just become useless. Just my 2 Cents....

That is most likely the only difference in the firmware...We are all waiting on howard forums for the orange firmware to be leaked....then someone will try putting in on the silver...if it works everyone will be flashing there firmware to the orange.

wow I had no idea that the enV button was only customizable to certain functions. I was thinking that I would link that orange button to the "Mobile Email" button instead of Wireless Sync. What a disappointment. But oh well I guess.
That definitely would be cool, though, if someone did get the firmware and it worked fine on the silver ones.
Thanks!

Yeah...ok You'll definitely have to let me know what the differences if there are any between the orange and silver enV because I can almost guarantee you, there aren't any. haha. Like I said, I have that the V2 firmware update and I love it. I don't have any complaints about it. How about anyone here? As another question, how many here on the forums ahve a second backup battery for their enV just in case?? Either standard or Extended? I would buy the extended but i feel it's like putting the extended big battery on the Razr..there's no point because it's such a thin phone you'd just be messing upt he size factor.

I have v2 firmware also I flashed my phone myself
There are def some differences in the orange one would be the env button and another would be the way you access the service menu....
...
what is different about the way you access the service menu?
And also I was planning on also getting the extended battery - only for use when I will be using the phone for extended periods of time (like i'll be on the plane for a while - I can watch movies on my phone). But yes it does mess up the form factor of the phone.
Is there also a battery charger that charges the battery w/o requiring it to be inside the phone itself?
Thanks!

For the service menu do as follows with flip open, only press ##program9900 SEND (though it will show up as ##77647269900 - you can dial a phone number by pressing the letter keys and a number shows up instead, you know?)
and of course you need to press the Sym key to get the # to show up (and you have to press the Sym key again to get the next # to show up, obviously)
Don't press the OK or Menu button, that's only for the old method. And you need to press Send at the end. And then the password is still 000000.
As far as a charger goes I saw a universal one someplace but I can not seam to find it right now...it was not phone specific it had a spring clip thing with adjustable contacts.

As far as the service code menu is concerned, I have no problems w/ accessing it by hitting 00000 at all. Works fine for me. As far as the battery, Like I said, mine usually lasts about a day and a half and that's w/ keeping Bluetooth active a lot and using stereo bluetooth headphones. i play my music a lot and i don't know about everyone else here, but I LOVE playing music on my enV. It just makes it all worth it completely. The battery, yeah I thought abnout it for a ittle bit but i just can't see myself messing up the form factor on my enV. haha.
...
Yes you are using the silver correct.
...
Correct. I am using the Silver enV how about yourself? I don't know about you, but I absolutely love my phone. There's nothing wrong w/ it at all. haha 🙂

I have the silver running v2 firmware and I must say this is the best phone I have owned.
...
Yes I must agree 100% with you!! As said before I have the silver running v2 firmware as well and It's a dream to work w/ this phone. WOuldn't it be cool though if you could play music while doing other applications on your phone like the LG Chocolate. It's not very important to me, but it would be an interesting feature. This as all my other Verizon phones, the best phone w/ a full qwerty keyboard on it. I take all my digital pictures w/ it and they all come out very good. I upload all of thme to my computer. It works out perfectly.
