when using the front numeric display to txt message, it seems to default to abc mode everytime instead of word mode. anyway around this? its very annoying to have to hit 2 extra buttons each time to get it into the right mode.

Yes. In the messaging Section, Left soft key to get to settings, go to "all messages", go to "Entry Mode", slect "Word". This will make it the default for the Front Screen.
