Verizon To Launch Location Based Services in Q3
Jun 3, 2005, 1:37 PM by (staff)
Verizon today said they would begin offering Location Based Services (LBS) to their subscribers in the third quarter of this year. The carrier plans to launch with a series of BREW based applications developed with partners but branded with Verizon's name. The initial offering should include turn-by-turn directions, geofencing and other common LBS applications. Verizon will then open up the system and APIs to third-party developers, who can create LBS programs under their own brands. Nextel already offers similar applications, and Sprint has begun launch of LBS as well.
