Amazon Underground Heralds 'Actually Free Apps'
Aug 26, 2015, 1:10 PM by Eric M. Zeman
Amazon today made available a new app that gives Android device owners access to totally free apps worth tens of thousands of dollars. Amazon Underground, which must be side-loaded directly from Amazon's web site, provides users with free versions of games and other apps that typically include fees of some sort. According to Amazon, it has cut a deal with the app developers wherein it pays them directly on a per-minute-of-use basis. This means users won't be hit up for in-app purchases or other hidden costs. Some of the free titles include OfficeSuite Professional 8, Goat Simulator, Star Wars Rebels: Recon Missions, and Angry Birds Slingshot Stella. Amazon said the program is intended for the long haul and will be updated over time with new features and titles. Android Underground is free to download from Amazon.com.
