Twitter today said it is enriching Direct Messages with more real-time tools. Moving forward, Direct Messages will be more dynamic than before thanks to read receipts, typing indicators, and web link previews. People will be able to see when others have read their messages thanks to a new checkmark that appears once messages have been viewed. A separate indicator will say when all recipients of a group DM have seen the message. Moreover, users will be able to see when recipients are typing replies in one-on-one and group conversations. Last, links sent via DM will generate a preview of the web page. The expanded features transform DMs into a nearly full-fledged messaging service. The new Twitter DM tools are rolling out to users gradually on Android and iOS.
