Opera Software today made a new beta version of Opera Mini available to Nokia's Symbian-based phones. Opera Mini 5.1 for Symbian is no longer based on Java, as it has been in the past. This new version was built natively for the Symbian platform, and Opera says that brings a number of performance improvements in the browser. Opera says that the browser will now launch much faster, will show faster page-load and scrolling actions, has support for all device text inout methods, has support for copy and paste, and — most significantly — allows users to choose their default access point, which negates the need for pop-up dialog boxes. The beta browse is available starting today.
