The Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA) this week announced the launch of the Common Short Code (CSC) service. The service allows marketing and similar companies to reserve common five-digit numbers that can be used across all carriers' SMS networks, for a period of 3-12 months. Applications include sweepstakes, tele-voting campaigns, contests, mobile coupons and other promotions. All of the country's major national and regional carriers are participating. CTIA is the program's administrator, and NeuStar, Inc. will register CSC services on behalf of the industry.
