Virgin Mobile USA has decided to drop the "unlimited" nature of its $40 3G Broadband2Go data plan. The plan, which was introduce with a Virgin-branded MiFi device last summer, allowed customers to consume unlimited mobile broadband for $40 per month. Now, Virgin Mobile has added a 5GB soft cap to the plan. Users can still consume as much data as they want, but after they reach 5GB per month, their speeds will be throttled down considerably. Virgin Mobile USA said that the move is being made to make sure all customers have an optimal experience. In a statement emailed to PCMag, Virgin said, "Customers who use BB2Go for typical email, internet surfing and reasonable downloading will likely not be impacted/notice any difference." The change goes into effect at the end of customers' current billing cycle, though no later than February 15.

optimal experience 🤣

at&t already used that one
It's really to give the carrier an optimal experience because then instead of upgrading their network to accommodate more and more people, they can just restrict the users for their laziness sake.

At least it's a soft cap. I rarely reach the 5GB level, but it's nice to know they won't just shut me off or charge me more.
