Verizon Wireless today announced that it will immediately begin to expand its BroadbandAccess EV-DO high-speed data service nationally. EV-DO service provides average user speeds of 300-500 kilobits per second (kbps), and is currently available in Washington, D.C. and San Diego. Verizon will spend $1 billion to deploy EV-DO nationally over the next two years. The service will be available in many major cities this summer, with additional deployments through 2005. The company also plans to offer a lineup of EV-DO phones later this year.
