I had a TracFone for years, and had only one call dropped. As prepaid goes, it can be fairly cheap if you work it right, and the phones don't have bells and whistles, but they work. Customer service is pretty bad, I'll admit. My other experience is with Cingular and now AT&T. Customer service with them has been excellent. The phones have a lot of bells and whistles available, though I have more calls dropped now than I did with TracFone. In my area, my TracFone was CDMA and the Cingular/AT&T is GSM, of course. Maybe that is the reason. My younger son lives in an area of the state where GSM works poorly, as well. Once it's set up, a TracFone can be quite reliable, and relatively inexpensive. I've kept a tracfone as a backup for my Nextel for years and feel the same way. If you are someone who doesn't make many phone calls, it is actually a VERY cheap way to go. You can have phone service for as little as 8 bucks per month with NO contracts.

It's all about what you need a phone for. 😉
