Audiovox 8900 is back!
I really like the look of the 8900 but am a little scared of the recall issue. I have read all the reviews and it seems that this phone is getting a bad rap. I live in the DC area and want this phone, can anyone tell me if it is worth the risk or should i just play it safe and get the lg6000?

The phone is just fine, the recal was just to have the software flashed. there was an issue with the mobile web stuff. phone itself works just fine.

I disagree. I just bought it and you still cant change the banner. Do you know if you can set it so the clock on the outer display does not blink verizon wireless and only stays as the clock? If not i am going to return it for the LG 6000.
Thanks

Here is the CURRENT SW Version for the phone, and was the software change did.
S/W Version “T095VEDT20_0”
Description of Modification
1. Browser client ID has been changed to Min
2. Changed the PPP User ID to MDN@vzw3g.com
3. Wap should prefer 1X and default to QNC if 1X is not available or not provisioned
Told it it was to fix Data related problems.

Here is the only thing I have found on a display issue for the 8900:
To resolve the display issue:
Select Menu
Select option 7 - Settings.
Select option 2 - Display.
Select option 2 - Graphics.
Select option 1 - Wallpaper.
Select the OK key to set to Digital Clock.
Select End.
And about the banner, I think they are making it were the newer phones banners cannot be changed. Because it is that banner that lets you know whether your on Verizon, Extended, or Roaming. I will try to check into that.

I checked with Technical Support. They said it is not any kind of software issue, that is how the phones are setup now.. the banner is now controled by the PRL list.. So you can change the banner, but it may only show temporarily, and then convert back to Verizon..
Sorry dude.. Nothing can be done, that is just how it is.

can i set my phone to only show the time on the outer display? I dont want "verizon wireless" on the outer display.
thanks

I don't tink there is.. I think maybe it works the same as the main screen, it probably changes to extended and roaming whenever you go into those networks.. I think they put it like that so in case you go into a roaming area, and recive a call, you will know your roaming prior to opening the flip and getting charged for roaming..
