iPhone to Android reset iMessages.

Any help with this would be appreciated?

Going from an iPhone which I was using iMessages to an Android. ATT seems to reset and go back to regular texts no problem. But on Verizon texts don't go through either way.

I have to have another Verizon iPhone user turn off their iMessages, we swap texts, then they can turn iMessages back on. Then texts start to flow between the two OS's just fine.

Why doesn't the network pick this up without having the iPhone user going through all that mess, and go back to regular texts like ATT's does?

I would think it would be iMessage that doesn't know. Your phone number is still registered with iMessage. I think if you connect the old iPhone to wifi and then turn off iMessage it should fix it. Make sure if you have any other devices with iMessage that they are linked to your phone number for iMessage too. It would be nice if it were somehow automatic, just not sure how iMessage would know on its own.

I've spent hours trying to troubleshoot issues that Apple created.

I had the I message issue when I went from iPhone back to Android. I went almost six months not getting texts from iPhone users. I agree with vzwinagent's assessment that you need to log into iMessage on the old device and turn it off. You MUST be connected into WiFi. If you don't have this device any more, or its no longer on your Apple ID, you may just have to wait it out.

As for why...
