ACTIVATION AND UPGRADE FEE
Why do carriers charge for an upgrade fee when we extend our contract with them? I think its too much already because we've already paid the activation fee when we got a new phone, so why do I need to pay for another upgrade fee just to stay with them?

Majority of this board seems to think that the average customer doesnt want a contract, when in reality they do. The average person will choose to have a contract and a discounted phone instead of paying full retail price for a device, especially if the plan prices don't change.

While I agree that most on this board are industry geeks, and even though I would amend that to say that many of us are industry employees as well, I'm not sure that the majority of this board believes that the average person doesn't want a contract. Even more, I'm not sure if I see the direct connection with the post you have responded to.
If I were to venture a guess, seeing as how most people here are industry geeks, with many of them employed in the business, a good part of the people on here - not all or most - would label most "average persons" as under-informed and trend-following consumers who would drink from the Great Fountain of Subsidy a hundred times more than they would from the Tiny Water Cooler of Meh that is non-contra...

Not entirely. If you have the new plan and cancel early, you don't have something called a termination fee, but you will still have a bill for the remaining months on your installment plan for your equipment, which is effectively the came reason for an ETF.
