Want to upgrade but still have unltd data
On average I use around 4GB a month and that is with absolutely little to no wifi use (4G is often faster). I somehow also used 6MB this morning at 5am while I was sleeping 😲 So between the wifi and somewhat monitoring my data use I could easily drop my data usage.
My current plan is 900 minutes ($79.99) with unltd data/text ($29.99) with insurance and taxes my monthly bill is roughly $122.
So Im thinking of just signing a new contract and doing the 4GB plan ($40 + $70) which means I would pretty much be spending the same amount as before.
Any input on my situation would be appreciated, thanks!

If you're going to do that sign your unlimited contract over to someone who wants it. Then start a new shared plan for yourself.

Unlimited data is a grandfathered plan of verizon and its no longer offered anymore. So, if you will upgrade, you have no options but to choose a certain number of GB of data. And if you go beyond you data allowance, you might be charge $15/GB overage charge. If you want to get unlimited data, then try to switch carrier like sprint or tmobile... if will be your last option. But make sure that you have a good coverage in your area if in case you are planning to switch.

As long as you're OK with having that person on your personal account - doing an assumption of liability will lose the unlimited data anyway.

I fully respect your position on this forum, but you are incorrect about AOL's pertaining to unlimited data. You might want to double check. You are able to keep the unlimited data feature if you do an AOL. (As of this post)

It would be like if I had an account with my brother on it. But he wanted to move on to his own plan and stay with the same carrier, he could assume liability of his line and spin off onto his own plan while retaining his account.
The advantage is the he would not have to pay an activation fee and I would not have to pay an Early Termination Fee (ETF)

Thx for the information. Unfortunately I am not in that situation otherwise I could keep my unlimited data as well. Ah well. The next best thing to look at is how much data I use and based off that decide what to get when I upgrade.

Unless you are using ACSS (which means you may have the ability to override the AUTOMATIC change in the system) or live in a state with laws which pertain to this, the default rule will be you lose your unlimited with an AOL. We do them all the time and lose them every time. The only exception will be on older mobile broadband plans, but the second you change your device you will likely lose it these days (again, unless you live in a state where there are laws which effect this, such as Florida).

I've had people do them over the phone with the AOL team, which I thought was the only way and they keep it.

It's all good one way or the other. I mean you cant call customer service and ask to speak with the AOL team to tell them "hey I've had my service ex number of years and want to keep it"
