Coming soon to a Verizon near you, and even for existing customers already under contract who now show a 20-month upgrade date. 24 months is the new 20 months.

Upgrade at 20 months was never a contract condition, therefore its not an ETF waiver. Also, the change is not immediate and not the same for all customers. Basically, if you have an upgrade coming in the next few months (based on 20 months) you'll get it, but if your upgrade date is coming sometime this fall then you'll move to the 24-month schedule. If you think about it, you could see this coming, after all, the carriers have no new business to bring in, just the petty little battles trying to get folks to switch over, and by using subsidized phones they've basically been hemmorhaging money. The 20-month upgrade was simply a policy Verizon had for the past several years, nothing more. But don't take my word for it - read the actual contract and see if it says anything at all about upgrading at 20 months. And yeah, if you're close to the end of your contract and you whine long enough, loud enough and to the right rep or customer service supervisor you'll probably find someone who'll waive it. Not because of the upgrade policy change, but because by that time you will have been a royal pain in the butt.

Exactly. Why pay $13 for a rep to take that call? Five calls and one has lost that sixty dollars anyway.

No. I suspect the change will only apply to *new* contracts, so there will be no impact on the current base, which will still get one last upgrade at the 20 month interval.
At least, that's what they did when they dumped the 12-month early upgrade a few years back, and there were no contract impacts then.

From what I've seen it will effect anyone who's contract ends after January 1st, 2014. Apparently the upgrade date wasn't in the terms and conditions anyway.

Well...having dealt with the public for thirteen years, I personally can't blame them. People just beg to be fleeced of their cash. Verizon is only obliging them.

"Device payment plan" that Vzn is supposedly launching today isn't as good as T-Mobile payment plan, Vzn seems to have it's self confused for a bank charging a $2/mo financing charge, they're a wireless carrier, not a bank!
And they want it paid off in 12mo's, whereas T-Mobile allows 24mo's to pay off.
I have a very, very tight budget, and going to T-Mobile is the only way for me to get a *NEW* smartphone w/o adding to my very tight budget.
Going from the Samsung Droid Charge to the Galaxy S4 will be a very BIG jump for me in the smartphone experience.

Hopefully it will work out for you. I can't stand t-mobile they totally suck in WA and it's their headquarters! I would of thought you would go with Sprint instead.
