Not sure what this has to do with my comment.
I don't think anything. I was merely stating what was offered to me from Costco. I found out where my number is some company called: NEW CINGULAR WIRELESS PCS, LLC - DC....So essentially that number is gone unless I can contact that company and see if they can get it back.

All phone numbers are assigned to ONE phone company that "owns" those numbers forever (FOREVER). I've been around here long enough that I seem to recall that you were indeed a Cingular customer originally, right?
If that's the case, AT&T still "owns" your number, and will forever. There's a big misconception out there that "number portability" is the same thing as "number ownership transfer."
It's...

I would add to what CellStudent said (keeping in mind what you've said about your number in this thread), that the number has likely been reassigned to a current AT&T customer. If the information that indicated it was now with CINGULAR (which is AT&T) said the number was PORTABLE, then it's probably active with someone else now. You need to make sure of this, and the easiest way is to call AT&T and ask.
Sadly I asked and I get the standard answer of "The numbers are automatically generated." Should I call be calling customer service or sales?

Well good news...Well sorta. I ordered my new phone with ATT, did manage to find out that my old number was still available. Apparently what I have to do is when I get my new phone call customer service, and request a number exchange. Not sure if they'll send me a new SIM card but whatever its all good I get my old number back
See you guys around
