Torn on decision...
Here's the deal. I've been with Verizon (off and on) since 2002. (and if you're curious why-it's because I worked for cingular and T-mobile during the times when I didn't...I'm a nurse now, so I don't follow the cell phone debates as I once did lol)....

As for a warranty replacement the rep will trouble shoot some stuff. Probably perform a hard reset and then try to replicate a problem. Then they have to call into a tech support number for additional trouble shooting before they authorize a replacement.
Went to the vzw retail store yesterday evening and was not at all impressed with the help or service we got there. First we weren't even greeted for about 20 minutes, then the girl that did end up helping us...well, you could see the chipper friendly smile go away when we told her what was going on and she gave us the "I don't give a hoot because this isn't a new sale" treatment attitude the whole time. ...sorry I didn't read this before my original response. Well...good luck with your new plan.
If you upgrade a basic phone to a smart phone and change it back to basic, the data is contracted on that line for 2 years.
You still keep unlimited data on the line you move the equipment to but there is now an additional data plan on the other line.
This started at end of August.
