I had nothing but bad experiences with WiFi calling when I had Tmobile. I used to have awesome network coverage with Tmobile but when I moved 3 miles down the road in a well networked suburb, my coverage sucked. I tried WiFi calling for a few months but I dropped calls all the time and had trouble even getting incoming calls. I switched to Verizon and have yet to have any signal issues no matter where I travel and I travel quite a bit.

Well, I had a great experience with WiFi calling on my company-issued Blackberry. I only used it for a few months because my workplace stayed with Sprint.
My guess is your Internet provider or wireless home networking setup was bad.

WiFi capability solves the basic issue of indoor reception. Some structures interfere with radio signals from cellphone towers.
international calling is dependent upon carrier rate plans rather than your signal source. The best way to avoid international charges is to use a service like Facebook Messenger.
