AT&T & GREED: Another way to may you pay!
The catch is that you will have to pay AT&T for the boost. There are two payment plans: If you buy the microcell for $150, AT&T will charge your voice calls made using the device against the minutes on your monthly wireless plan. Or you can sign up for unlimited calling for a $20 a month fee, and get the microcell free. 😲

AT&T has begun offering home 3G base stations that look like Wi-Fi routers, but send and receive 3G radio signals instead. These microcells, as AT&T calls them, connect to the Internet and offer wireless coverage of up to 40 feet in any direction. They work with any 3G AT&T phone, but not with Apple’s older non-3G model of iPhone. 🙄

This is funny I'm still laughing from yesterday when I first read it. Apparently Sprint has a similar concept like this called AIRRAVE. Their are 2 serviceable options here:
1. Enhanced Coverage Plan: Cost $4.99/month
2. Unlimited Calling Plan: Csot $20/month for Family Shared Accounts, $10/month for single line accounts
We can all see relatively clearly that AT&T has copied the second option here without distinguishing the charges from a single line to a family plans as described here.
The fact that they need to adopt something like only justifies my saying that at&t network truly does suck here!

Granted, anybody who has the broadband data service required for the airave to work could probably just use WiFi. But still, it's a difference worth noting.
sprint airave
100 for the unit
5/month
10/month for unlimited for single, 20 for families
NO EVDO
verizon
100 for the unit after 100 MIR
NO EVDO
no monthly service charge
at&t
FREE after MIR with unlimited calling feature (also can be removed later)
3G compatible
only monthly service charge if you want unlimited calling at home
exclusive feature: fastest 3g speed and simultaneous data and voice
so lets recap, at&t has the only 3g microcell, better price for the device, simultaneous voice and data. hmmmm
I for one am glad that at&t is offering the microcell. They should have rolled this out though with the 3g iphone in 2008, not 2 years later. Poor planning by at&t. If the market doesn't support the current pricing structure for the microcell then hopefully they will adjust it accodringly.

If not for Sun's cheerleading of Sprint, I would assume that she was employed by Chanelphone to be the only person on this board who actually agrees with anything they say.

🤨 😳
Amarantamin,
You are mistaken here...and rather severely at it too! My bashing of AT&T is purely off the basis of my truly unpleasant experiences and is by no means does it have anything to do with what CHANELPHONE is ranting on.
What's more disappointing is if we're on the same page on a topic, you act like I'm god saying stuff like, "Don't leave these forums, ever!" And then the complete 180 like you've shown here! You ca...

He's not an at&t fanboi. He's a Sprint Fanboy pretending to be neutral on stuff.

LMAOOOOOOOOOOOO! 🤣 🤣
Working for Sprint, I know a lot more about their services and features, and it's kind-of ingrained to advertise it. I feel a 'brand-loyalty' need to point out when I see a better deal with Sprint.
However, this does not leave me blind to what other companies have to offer. Like many people here, I'm trying to learn beyond what my employer tells me. In this case, ATT does have a good offer with their airave-like device. I won't pretend they don't just because I don't work for them.
I hope that clears some things up.
Unless, of course, you are dealing with your mother. there's another Complex that will work with her.
