I’m a FirstNet subscriber. I recently ordered an iPhone 12 Pro on a payment plan. Band 14 is currently available in my area. It’s my understanding that devices operating on the upper C block portion of the 700mhz spectrum are supposed to be unlocked. My device currently shows locked at the moment. Is AT&T supposed to unlock my device pre the FCC regulations? I need to be able to use an alternate carrier in the event of another outage.

My android devices MTP is not working on Windows 10. Any idea what could be going wrong?

I recently experienced problems with an att branded Samsung S7 edge that I own. The phone worked fine other than the fact it would not update to the new version of Android that was released early this year. I could not access the wi-fi calling and the battery drained like crazy. After taking the phone to an att store twice and multiple phone calls to customer care, they eventually agreed to exchange the phone. They sent the new phone with instructions and packaging to return the old phone. So I shipped the old phone back and I thought my problem was finally fixed. This actually isn't news, but I couldn't find discussion in this forum, so wanted to ask if anyone has heard any details about it. AT&T have announced that they're going to be discontinuing 2G, GPRS, and EDGE data on both 850 and 1900 bands. They are apparently also reallocating some usage of LTE data, but I don't have details handy (and they're not easy to find, at least by me).

I don't really know enough to understand the impact to, for example, GSM voice on 850 and 1900. Does anyone know which phones, if any, will be affected by this change (effective 1/1/17, but some changes going into effect sooner, according to some discussion)?

I have a handicapped friend who's wanting some kind of touchscreen phone (Android or iOS would probly be ok) to go on her GoPhone acct. She's currently on a $45/mo plan, and I think wants a touchscreen kybd. Probly any 4.5" to 5.0" would be fine. Doesnt have to be new gen. Personally I like Samsung, HTC, LG. Need to keep cost under $75 on used type market.

I'm switching from Sprint to AT&T and would like to bring my own device in order to take advantage of their lower price plans. Currently I have an iphone 4s 32gb. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can find reasonable and reliable smart phones for AT&T or unlocked GSM phones? I have enjoyed my iPhone but I'm willing to use android as well.

Having switched from AT&T to Tmobile for a great plan with unlimited international calling and global data roaming, which I use extensively, I find that their coverage in the US is no where near adequate for me. I'm thinking of switching back but wanted to know when I will be able to use my wifi at home to make VoIP calls internationally. Does anyone know? Or have any ideas about calling internationally without rocketing my bill?

Does anybody else just love this thing? It flat out shows coverage area and strength anywhere, so you're able to address coverage area concerns before you ever sell anybody a phone.

I'm looking to get into the cheapest what I'll call 'wake-up phone' I can get. My regular phone gets calls all the time so when I go to sleep I put it on silent. In case of an emergency I need a second 'wake-up phone' for my close friends and family to call to wake me up. This second phone would never get any talk time put on it as it would only be used to wake me up, at which point I would revert to my regular phone. Actually I had a pre-paid phone like this for a number of years through boost. It only cost me $5 every 90 days to keep it active. That was the minimum amount to keep an account open, and the re-boosts bought online were good for 90 days. Not caring much about modern phones (for a long time) I have used an old Nokia 6340i GAIT phone since 2006. True, it was backward-looking even for 2006 but won academy awards for grabbing and holding cellular signal in a very weak signal area (and had an external antenna port, to boot).

A recent move has gotten me a bit closer to stronger cellular reception (from "almost non-existent" to "weak to moderate") and it's enough to considering upgrading to something a bit more modern, as well as having the option of data access.

I've been reading/studying my options and talking with friends. If anyone would indulge me here, now I'd be interested to hear what total strangers have to say 🙂
