I am 🤤 over the new Iphone. Currently have a non-smart phone (Samsung mythic) love it for the $15 unlimited data and full HTML web browsing....but really like the new Iphone...had the 2nd Iphone (first 3G version) and got rid of it b/c it had water damage...but guess what...I see no point going to this phone or any smart phone on at&t with the new data plans....THEY SUCK! If enough people protest this, perhaps it would make a point?

AT&T is not going to budge on this one guy. Their goal is to educate on actual usage, lower plans for many to reduce churn (and gain customers while the others have higher plans) and recoup costs for higher usage users.

If enough people cancel over this, they will be forced to change. However, people will complain about it without cancelling, causing nothing to change, because ATT (like any company) is okay with any change that both makes them more money and doesn't cause mass churn.

Yes I stream video daily, listen to pandora daily, and surfthe net daily, and have never gone over 2 gigs. So you feel that the company should shape it's policy around your usage habits? How about the person who hardly ever uses data - why should they pay more for less usage? 98% of ATTs customers use less than 2 gigs a month - so this change is positive for 98% of ATT users. Youre never going to make everyone happy, and I'm sorry you are in the vast minority that don't like this move, but the point is, most consumers do like it. the mythic is not a smartphone, there is not way in hell that you can use more than 2gb of data.

I do the same thing. I think what they are trying to say is that the lithium battery can only be recharged a finite number of times. There really IS a limit! Most manufacturers specs say 500-1000 times or so. If you care about your battery and you re-charge it every day....you will have to replace the battery sooner than you would if you use it all up and get 6-12 more hours down the road in life before re-charging again. you know?

We're talking about trying to use less data on the wireless data networks. Well if the wireless companies would use more spectrum, which ATT has, data usage would be less of an issue. It's the wireless companies that are inefficient not the users.

There are two items at play here, economics and technology.
Economic response: There is no way to find out what the actual market value of one GB of data is if you are selling unlimited packages. You cannot perform arithmetic when one of the values is infinity. Changing to a tiered pricing is the only way for the marketing gurus to determine what the "fair market" price of data service is, and even that only works if competitors follow suit, which they will eventually.

The basic idea is that WiFi needs to be used EVERY time it is feasible. It's not always feasible. If you're in the back of a taxi or running Google Navigation, WiFi is insufficient. I have a good friend who is a semi-professional photographer. He's also kinda nerdy like me so he sports a Droid Incredible with the 8MP shooter on it.
Guess what? Every time he wants to go out to a function or event he might want to remember for a while, he brings along his SLR! For the casual snap-shotter like me, there's no difference between 8 MP and 800 MP- it's just a decent picture either way. For the trained eye, no "multi" device will ever be good enough and they will always carry around a dedicated device to get the job done.
It's the same with processing power on smartphones. 1GHz is plenty. In fact it's too much if you asked me, but I'm a big fan of battery powe...

I feel that ATT has done its research on this. Back in the dark ages, when Southwesten Bell Mobile Systems merged with Bell South to create Cingular (I told you this was ancient history) all of the plans changed from having unlimited nights and weekend minutes to 5000. Such an uproar you wouldn't believe. However, when you would look at one of their bills, they might be using 500 N&W minutes per month. The word "Unlimited" just made them feel safe. The same applies here. Most people use way less than 2 gig and will have no trouble staying under that limit. Besides, wifi is available in bunches of places now, and that does not go against your limit. Besides, if you do go over, you get another 2gig for just $25 more. Yes, you may be the except...
