Captivate/Android questions
1. I tried to save my contacts to my sim card before I moved it from my bold 9700 to the captivate. I wasn't aware that all my contacts would be uploaded to the phone through google. For some reason I can only assign contacts pictures if they were uploaded by google, I can't take my contacts saved to my sim card and put a custom picture on it. So my question would be, how can I get my "google" contacts back on the phone (as I deleted A-E)?

2. I'm also having issues changing ring tones. Every time I go into "settings", "sounds and display" then go to "notification ringtone" it will allow me to change the notification tone, however it doesn't specify whether I'm changing the alert tone for an e-mail or a text message. I would a...

1) Fix the issue directly through gmail Contacts on a full-size computer. Then they should push onto the handheld. If it's wrong on the internet, there's no hope of getting them on the handheld.
2) I'm not really SURE on this one, but I think you're in the wrong place. Custom ringers for individual contacts on Android should be set up by tweaking the contact card in the address book, not through general settings.

That worked for the contacts, thank you. I'm looking into customizing the notifications.

Is now your friend. All high end phones sync with it now in some way.
Android does. iPhone does. I bet BB does.
Use that website to edit your contacts. Join different contacts into one person. Etc.

I had the same question about the notification alerts. At first I was told I would have to download an app to customize my sms/mms ringtone...which I thought was ridiculous. I later found that you can change it without downloading an app. 1.Go into your messaging app. 2.When you are in the view of all of your conversations hit the options button in the bottom left. 3. select settings 4. Go all the way to the bottom and choose "select ringtone" 5. Rejoice!
Originally you were only changing the notification for email.
My personal opinion is that it is ridiculous to have this option so buried in the menu. There should only be one place to go to change your alert types. Hopefully in 2.2 or another version of touchwiz this will be fixed.

Thanks for the help, that worked. I agree with you, it's strange that you can't select all ringtones and notifications from one location. This is my first android phone, but I can't help but think that touchwiz kind of sucks.
