No Rebates
Is it just me or is everyone loving AT&T's propencity for no rebates on smart phones?
Aria, Captivate, Torch, Gurve 3G and Pearl 3G when they drop.
Looks like the 3 new Droid handsets will be sans rebates, too. Sweet!

If the MIR is so easy, then the carrier should be able to do the MIR and get the money back from the manufacturer. Heck, if I made the call, I'd sell the phone at $20.00 more than what the MIR discount would bring it in to and make profit off of the rebates because customers are too lazy to do it themselves. And they would flock to buy the phones, too.

Thats actually not a bad idea. I wouldnt mind paying the $20, MIR are a pain in the ass. IT kinda sucks that ATT banks on the customer to forget or mess up the rebate so profit a little more....

As much as it sucks for consumers, for major companies it's a way to provide price differentiation for customers. People that can easily afford the phone before rebate won't redeem it as often (making the phone more expensive for them) as customers who need the lower price to afford the phone.
With that said, we fill out every rebate that leaves the store, and put it into an addressed envelope. It definitely helps overcome the customer's objection to the whole rebate process.

Now Will you know you aren't getting a Droid unless you switch to Verizon.

MIR does not really make sense if the smartphone requires voice and data. Business Markets Group has done instant rebates all along, which is much friendlier.
