man att still hasn't start on rolling out the LTE. HSPA+ is not 4G! If Att doesn't get their act together, time to peace out and move to verizon!
...
first towers going up end of may. and by the end of june will cover same if not more than verizon. after buying t-mobile will be able to put out lte to most of its network.
...
What? So your telling me that the first tower goes up in in the end of May, and that by the end of June will cover more than Verizon? What flavor is the kool-aid you're drinking? AT&T was laughingly slow at building out its 3G network, and you're telling me they will have 70+ markets lit up with LTE in one month? Um, gonna go with a no on this one.
...
And no, I'm not a Verizon fanboy, I'm just an AT&T customer who is somewhat disappointed with AT&T lagging behind all the other major carriers with their "4G" rollout.
...
You post is exactly why I left ATT.
Lack of ambition.
...
AT&T has no problem charging it's customers more than the other carriers, limiting their abilities (first capped data plans) and not having the network capacity to keep customers happy. They make me sick. They are even capping home DSL now. Greedy crooks.
Funny story - AT&T is based in Lubbock, TX. While sitting at a college football game at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock, my AT&T phone could not make calls, send texts, or access the internet because of a network overload. That is when I decided to switch carriers. Complete CRAP.
...
For some reason ATT just doesn't put as much financial support into it's network as Verizon. They'd rather pay stock holders.
So what carrier did you end up going to?
...
AT&T has actually been spending double or more Verizon's spending for the past 3 yrs or so.
The reason they're behind is because their UMTS/HSPA 3G deployment was much more expensive to deploy than Verizon's EV-DO 3G deployment. That's also why they still don't have 100% 3G deployment across the network.
...

I'm an AT&T supervisor and that sounds like something we would say 🤣
AT&T is behind because they choose to be. There is no spectrum shortage. They have more than any other carrier and could have deployed LTE by now. Everyone who does research knows that.
Sure the iPhone caused some problems, but those were fixed with the repurposing of the 850 mhz spectrum.
Now I think they're waiting as a ploy to get the FCC and DOJ to approve their buyout of T-Mobile.
Gotta love corporate.
...
I've never seen any AT&T talking points or heard any rep say that we have less broadband coverage because UMTS (and it's revisions) is more expensive than EVDO.
AT&T does not have the most spectrum.
Clear - 150 mhz
Verizon - 88mhz
AT&T - 84mhz
Sprint - 69mhz
T-mobile - 51mhz

Almost went with Sprint for the Evo, but went to Verizon after a few friends complained about their Sprint service. Nobody with Verizon had complaints and so far I'm pretty satisfied.
...
Since when has AT&T been based in Lubbock?

How many people trying to use that particular site at the same time? It's that way with most carriers at big events.

Apparently you can see more than ATT can, because in their announcement they stated 5 markets by summer and 10 more by the end of the year, not 55 by June.
...
Is that with or without herbal assistance?
So you are just completely disregarding what AT&T has stated in their press release. Some sort of Jedi powers of mass network deployment must exist in your universe.
...
yes those are the privileges of working atan att call center and being able to look up towers and planned activations of towers. So im not sure why ur hating i said i don't care if you believe me.
...
And people wonder why AT&T customer service is rated so low - even their own employee's don't have a clue as to what's going on inside their own company (I say this as an ex AT&T employee who despised the other employees who constantly paraded around completely wrong information). You say you can see "planned towers"? The tool you are probably referrig to when you state you can "see" this information is simply a front line tool for reps, it does not paint an accurate or timely picture of future rollouts or the timeframes associated with these rollouts. It is designed to allow you to see outages and coverage areas, not give you a comprehensive view and outlook on future build outs. Please stop misinforming customers and other individuals wit...

Really?!!!? So your saying ATT is going to put up 55 LTE markets by the end of June? ATT isnt that ambitous.
...
He he He... hehehheheh.. hahahhaha.. Don't spill that blue koolaid on your white shirt. 😛
Thanks for giving me a good laugh HzD. Per AT&T they will have LTE is 15 Markets by the end of 2011. VZW will have LTE in 145 markets by the end of 2011. Last I looked, 145 is greater then 15; but I never was great at math.
...
I think at&t has the right idea...I think it was smart to plan to have HSPA+ to back up LTE, instead of just EVDO...but damn they really take their time.
...
Isn't most of ATTs HSPA+ network only 14mbps? Rather than REAL HSPA+ 21mbps and above like what Tmo is doing.
Probably the benefit with Verizon will be more than a measly 2GB`s a month.
...

We'll see what Verizon's new tiered data will be like, but I do see the caps being higher than AT&T's now (mainly to still be able to say "look, more data!").
Either way, I don't care. I wouldn't need more than 2 GB, hell right now I stay under 200 MB just fine. AT&T is a better choice if you want a little data on a smartphone, while you can go with Verizon if you feel you need unlimited.
...
i use regularly 7-8mb its my only source of internet out in the booneys were i unfortunetaly live. luckily i have full verizon 3g in the middle of no were indiana, which is one reason i

hspa+ and lte will cover more markets than verizons lte alone. sry that u laughed and looked stupid for nothing.
...
AT&Ts HSPA+ is horrible as far as I have seen. Do you have any good data showing that it is even half the speeds that LTE is?
...
I personally dont consider HSPA+ 4g, but t-mobile, att, and the fcc consider it 4g, and it is faster than regular 3g atleast. honestly though and i know imma get hated for this. att regular 3g vs verizon 3g att has faster 3g speeds. now that hspa+ will be over most of the network means even more speed and then lte on top of that.

But, they can't deploy and use all their vast LTE assets until the FCC signs off on the T-mobile deal. If they do that, they won't be able to claim they're helpless and can't compete unless that mighty corporation that was so kind as to offer themselves for sale (despite AT&T continuously declaring that T-mobile is really a viable wireless company)!
AT&T has to make themselves look as helpless as possible for the next few mnths to a year so they can kiss enough FCC @$$3$ to get the deal to go through!
So, don't hold your breath.
...
Which is precisly why I left ATT,
they lack ambition. They barely have HSPA 21 deployed, Tmo is pushing twice that.
ATT simply lacks ambition.
...
I don't know if it's ambition at this point, I think ATT is probably waiting to see what happens with TMO before they go too much into it. Either way, though, the reason doesn't matter, it's still frustrating for the consumer.
...
Well, for those who can't wait for higher speeds, and better Android smartphones, then Verizon is an option, I left ATT 15 months ago myself, and haven't looked back.

...except when you troll around the AT&T forum to tell everyone who will listen about how left for another carrier... you make some good points sometimes jay but seriously it is a little ridiculous.
...
Even if the merger goes through i think verizon will be all but done their lte footprint before at&t really even gets started.
Why do you think verizon does'nt really care what happens?!?
...
VZW doesn't care what happens because it will just be them and AT&T at the top of the hill, with sprint and all the regionals at the bottom. Duh.
...
+1, that's Jay's favorite thing to do. He will tell anyone who will listen, even if they aren't listening. I'd say at least 75% of his posts contain some type of reference to leaving ATT for VZW.
...
T-mobile is focusing almost entirely on urban areas. Most of their network outside of urban areas is stuck on EDGE and they seem to be making little effort to build out broadband outside of urban areas.
AT&T's network expenditures are split between working to deploy 100% UMTS/HSPA across their network, installing enhanced backhaul in urban areas and the LTE buildout.
Working on improving 3 areas vs. T-mobile's 1 hardly makes them less ambitious.

Nope. It didn't.
It wasn't a new link. I was just quoting your link to the five city launch.

what are you talking about? the ITU decided in December 2010 that HSPA+ *is* 4G.
End of discussion.
LTE will be transitioned in....by the end of the year, AT&T will have 100% deployment of HSPA+ (4G now!) across all 3G coverage areas and LTE in about 70-75 markets.
...
i mighta overstated beating verizon in lte. but with hspa and lte they most definitly will be ahead of the game + lte does start goin online in june to the end of the year. and i dont care if u believe me i can see the planned activation of towers. so =p

at this point in the game it really doesnt matter what carrier you have unless you live in one of the few areas Verizon has LTE. Either way by the end of 2012 beggining of 2013 boith carriers will have the entire network on LTE. However at&t will have HSPA+ and HSUPA+ to fall back on in the small areas that LTE wont exist...Verizon will only have EDVDO which we all know is slow as hell. Coverage between carriers will be nearly identical, so the only thing that matters, actually the only thing that ever mattered when chooseing a carrier is going to be based on where you live. IF the coverage where you live is better with Verizon fine, if its at&t great. In the end it all depends on where you live.
