required data plan?
does the rival require a $10 data plan to activate?
Just orderd from Verizon
I got the get new every 2 year plan. This phone looked like a winner. Love the fact it takes an 8G SDHC micro 🙂. Goin to love adding all my mp3 files to it and much more! I orderd the silver one, the purple one I did like but figured I would tone it down a bit by getting the silver.
Newegg has great deals on 8G micro SDHC cards, got a Transend for just a little under $20 😁
My wife decided to go with an old clam shell phone, LG vx5500 and I rubbed it in her face the whole time. I kept telling her to go for the purple one but she was too stubborn.
Ughh I can't wait to get my new toy, oops I mean phone 😎

Maybe too affordable?
I wouldn't consider myself a rabid fan but I have been with Motorola my entire cellular life. V710, V3m (hacked), and V9m (about to be hacked). I thought I would branch out for my next phone and try a sideways slider with QWERTY. I handled the Rival at the Verizon Store on Tuesday and was a little disappointed. I don't get the color scheme and the buttons seem so un-Motorola and gimmicky. I'm used to something solid with a solid feel and well machined lines that run the length of the cell phone body. The Rival was a puzzle. By the time I'm due for an upgrade hopefully they'll have rolled out something else.

Been there done that
I've had this phone for about five years now and have had no problems with it at all.
Pros:
Free
Waterproof
Shockproof
Shatterproof
Loud ringer
Extra battery included
Cuts monthly bill in half
Cons:
Made by Motorola
Not an iphone
Does not support quad band GSM
Keys get broke after five years of heavy use
I'd say if you could get this phone and you just need a crappy phone for the next five years then go for it. If you'd rather have a phone that will die in a year and cost you a lot then go with something else.

Moto
It is about time that Moto entered the fray. They had the window to make the Razor the defacto standard in cell phones but they lost it. They need to catch up with this "me to" device and then leapfrog with a platform product that uses their advanced technology, cooperative patents and manufacturing expertise. Dump the Q and Razor and come up with a new name for a new product with advanced chipsets like Gobi (Fenway). Whatever it is better have a mirrored finish.

Shouldn't a Phone this color....
Shouldn't a phone this color only be sold over in California?
I mean they are the only place that is gender confused enough that both guys and girls would even think about this phone!
