ROOT PROOF?

It seems that the A-holes @ tmobile decided to make the bootloader on the G2 self aware.

What does that mean you ask? It means that while the G2 was successfully rooted just days after it's initial release, once you reboot the phone the bootloader checks to see if it has been rooted and if it has, it resets everything back to the way tmobile wants it. ๐Ÿ˜ณ ๐Ÿคจ

WTH? ๐Ÿ‘ฟ That is completely ridiculous. ๐Ÿ˜• I haven't made up my mind on whether I want to root his thing yet but I should have the option to do so. My main reasons for rooting would be the Wifi hotspot ability, installing to the SD card (let's face it 1.5 GB of internal storage isn't very much), full system back up to SD card, Super user control. etc

Sure I can and have ...

My mistake ๐Ÿคญ HTC are the A-Holes who put in the self-aware bootloader ๐Ÿ‘ฟ , and Tmobile are the A-holes who decided to still go with the device ๐Ÿ‘ฟ !

I garentee you that someone over at xda will have this thing fully rootable soon. I know they had the same issue with the droid x's bootloader, but they got that issue resolved With how many devs are gonna have this phone its only a matter of time.
I wouldn't recomended the vibrant if you like a keyboard....with this being a stock android/dev phone it'll also get the ota updates the quickest. To be honest i love my vibrant but i hate keyboards. Stock android in my opinion is better...and to be honest its super annoying waiting for how slow samsung is taking just to push out bug fixes for the gps and lag issues.....i know its gonna really piss me off when it takes forever to get froyo and gingerbread.

Yea it's not looking good over @ XDA. but at least they are still passionate about finding the solution for it. I'm nervous about when the Devs begin to feel discouraged.

I was considering the Vibrant and the G2, but went with the G2 specifically for the Hardware QWERTY I hate virtual keyboards, although Swype makes them much more bearable. I like the G2, and have been able to get all the functionality i want with 3rd party apps save for the following:

Full 7 screens for desktop
Install to SD
Removal of Bloatware

I also prefer the qwerty for the emulators (SNesoid, Nesoid, etc) and gaming that doesn't use the accelerometer. I don't like the on-screen overlay of the controls, I'd much rather program actual buttons on the qwerty....

Yah your right, over at xda its not looking good but i wouldnt count out the devs.
It took forever for the incredible and droid x to get fully rooted. Id honestly be really surprised if this phone doesnt eventually get root...it'll literally be the first.
Its pretty annoying what htc did but if all else fails id prolly keep the g2 and if it doesnt get root ( and you cant love without it)sell it and buy a newer phone.

SO I said I wanted:

Full 7 Desktops
Install to SD
Remove bloatware

Full 7 desktops: *Got'em*

ADW Launcher: I only had 5 of the available 7 enabled! Duh... ๐Ÿคญ

Install to SD: *Kinda*

I can move some but not all to the SD. Apparently if the Dev who created the app being installed makes it install to the sd, it will. My feeling is that as the devs become more familiar with Froyo more will add this as a choice @ install

So that's not to bad for a default OS. Now if the Update they release allows for Tether & hotspot support I'd be golden!
