how does the front screen work? like after it times out what does it look like?

Does it show the picture, or battery/signal bars and time? does it go completely dark, and is there any way to change the settings for how long it displays info or its lit up, either open or closed?

i am almost positive that after it times out it goes completely dark to preserve battery....Well that is what it does on the cingular one... so who knows.
