international calling?
I'll be going overseas to London next week for a month, and was wondering how I will be making calls back to the States with this phone. I've never been out of the country before, so any help would be really appreciated.
Does this phone even work in the UK? Will I have to do something with Verizon to activate the international calling? Does it cost anything to have, and will I have to 'deactivate' it when I return? Is a calling card just preferred/easier?

Unfortunately. you cant use cdma phones outside of the US (and Canada and Mexico). The v3c, and other verizon phones are cdma only... The only cellphones that work in other countries are gsm (cingular and t-mobile). And what you would do is when you get to London, you would buy a local sim card (usually prepaid) and use it while you're there. But if you take ur razr to the UK, its pretty much going to be dead weight. Verizon does have a service (if you can even call it that) that lets you "rent" a gsm phone while you're there and have all your calls transferred. More info is at

1 thing it does say is all incoming calls to the UK is free of charge, so that may not be...

Renting a GSM phone isn't your only alternative. If you add Verizon i-dial (International Dialing) to your account, you should be able to use your phone (make and receive calls and maybe send/receive text messages). You can add this for free but you will incur roaming charges which differ depending on the country that you are visiting. There is a list of countries on the Verizon site along with the corresponding roaming rates. When I travelled to Jamaica a couple months ago, after having i-dial added to my account and updating my roaming profiles (while stateside), I had absolutely no problems making & receiving calls. I didn't do any text messaging so I can't say whether or not that worked, but definitely ask the Verizon cust service folk...
