Differences bewteen GPRS and GPRS APN

I learned from the forums how to get my wifi working flawlessly by changing a few settings. I tried using cingulars network immediately after with the same settings but turned off the wifi on my com manager.

When i connect to the net using cingular it changed from GPRS (on the old settings) to GPRS APN...i was wondering what the exact differences are if anyone can help

Media.Net-How do I know

Hello, all!

I've been lurking here for about a week. I just picked up my Cingular 8125 about an hour ago.

Although I am tech-literate, I know NOTHING about windows-mobile & PDAs.

I took your advice and subscribed to unlimited media.net instead of pda connect.

My internet browsing works out of the box...no configuration needed.

How do I know if it is browsing over media.net and not pda connect? I don't want to accrue usage charges on pda connect!

Also, I plan on using wifi...how do you switch back and forth between wifi & media.net?

TIA!

Media Net vs. Data Plan with Cingular

I have a treo 650 now with an unlimited media net (internet) package and I am upgrading to an 8125. A Cingular rep told me that I have to upgrade my internet package to a data plan, because media net will not work on the phone. Is this true? I only want to check my email and surf the net I do not need the high speed data capability. I thought the 650 and the 8125 had the same EDGE data connect capability?

Review in perspective

The real issue with this device (and the others like it that are coming down the road) is that they are becoming more affordable. When they become affordable, people who have no real need or use for such a device are likely to buy it anyway because it's so gee-whizzy-bang cool and then get frustrated with it because they don't understand some important aspect of their new device (such as the connection between the device, ActiveSync, and Outlook or Exchange for example). Then they write horrible reviews and trash-talk the device and the device gets a bad rap.

The reality is that a convergence device like this (or the Palm Treo 700, or the various Samsung and Siemens models prior, or even a Blackberry to some lesser degree) is really not d...

Replacement for Treo 650?

So I use a 650 for work and the poorly manufactured buggy thing frustrates me all day long. I need a new device and want the same advertised features inb terms of email, messaging, aim, browsing and interent sharing to a laptop - and am not particularaly attached to plam OS.

Granted my 650 reboots itself randomly, it barely syncs email, Blazer is practically worthless and when i answer call waiting, i usually (a) can't be heard by the incomming caller or (b) cant retrieve my original call.

I had hoped it would be great for email (blackberry would be better) that it would work for messaging and aim (any qwerty device would suffice for these features) and i had hoped I would be able to use the bluetooth to establish an internet EDGE c...

Just so you know, there is a zoom indicator in the camera function

In the bottom left corner, the third item is the zoom indicator. Starts at 1.0x, but displays arrows (up or down) to the right of it, indicating whether you can zoom in, out or both.

Cingular 8125 Question

I will also post this in the Cingular forum hoping someone out there can help me out....

I work for a Cingular agent (the largest agent in my market). Last week our boss held a meeting and informed all 60 of us that he is giving us our choice of a data phone. He is wanting us to learn how to use Cingular's data program so we are more familiar with it when that customer comes along.

I have played with the BB 7100g and the 8700, the Cingular 2125 and the 8125, the Treo 650, and the Nokia 6682 to see which one I wanted to go with. After much research and frustration involved, I think I've decided to go with the Cingular 8125.

First off, let me say I absolutly LOVE this phone. I think it's a great phone and has more than I could e...

AKU2 ROM update (with push email) availability

Does anyone know when T-Mobile or HTC might make the AKU2 ROM update available? I saw on the Windows Mobile website that T-Mobile in the Netherlands has the Messageing Service Feature Pack (or MSFP, which is part of the AKU2 update). Also, push email is available on the Treo 700, so it should be another few months for the MDA, right? (I hope)....

Also, does anyone know of an Exchange hosting service for home users that offers push email? I looked at 4smartphone.net, but their support replied to me saying they don't currently offer push email (it synchs mail by polling the server and updating your device and the server through ActiveSync via Exchange). So, if anyone knows of a similar service that uses (or plans to provide) push email once...

Media Net or Data Plan

Hey guys, I have a question. My 8125 arrives tommorow and Im wondering if I have to sign up for the more expensive unlimitted data plan Cingular offers or if I can get away with using MediaNet.

On my Treo 650 I was able to get away with MediaNet even though Cingular said I needed the Data Plan, on my Blackberry I had to get the data plan....

Any help or suggestions in appreciated......

T-MobileWeb on MDA

Does anyone know a way to make T-MobileWeb or T-zones work on the MDA? I don't need the full T-Mobile Internet package because most of my internet use will be done over Wi-Fi, but I do want to continue to have on-demand access for light use. If I have to pay $20+/month for a service I can get for $5 I think I'll have no option but to return the MDA and either switch to a non "smart" phone and pair it with a Bluetooth PDA or change carriers.

What is AKU2?

I'm an MDA owner, and relatively gadget-savvy, but I keep seeing stuff about an AKU2 update on forums (as I try to fix all the buggy stuff that haunts me) and I don't know what it means.

It's like Service Pack 2 for XP, right?

Is it good? What does it fix? Where can I get it? Is it easy to install? Will it void my warranty? I'm so cold.

Setting ringtones

"It took a few tries to find where to set the ringtone. It is assigned from the phone application while the rest of the MDA's sound effects (including the new message alerts) are adjusted in the system settings."

Not quite. You can set the default ringtone in the system settings, as well.

BTW, PPC Profiles Pro is a free app that lets you set profiles, including ringtones, alerts, BT & flight settings, etc. Very easy to use. Find it here at http://www.modaco.com/PPCProfiles-Pro-f151.ht ml
