This phone is great, It might not be a flip phone but for the price, you cant beet it..This phone will do everything you want it to do plus some. I highly suggest this phone to a new nextel user.

Of all the NEXTEL phones that I owned (4 total) this was my favorite. I loved the durability of the phone. I had the "extended" battery and I was able to go up to a week without charging. I had great reception. All the speakers were loud and clear and the phone itself felt good in my hand. One of the drawbacks to this phone was that it is so large it is not easy to carry in your pocket but I used a clip that attached at the bottom. When I bought the phone I was not eligible for an upgrade at that time so I did have to pay full price for it so it was slightly pricey. I owned the yellow & black model and on a few (2 or 3) occasions total strangers would come up to me and ask me about my phone and tell me it looked very "cool" or "nice". Great phone.

The Motorola i85s is the epitome of why many businesses choose nextel over other carriers. All iden motorola phones are solid and can stand up to lots of abuse, and this phone is no exception. I've dropped this phone on numerous occasions, and it holds up like a champ, this phone is SOLID. The phone is designed for use as a "phone", imagine that. It has a 250 entry phonebook that can store up to 6 numbers per name, and doesn't take up separate entries in your phonebook like most other carriers. The phone has excellent call quality, and a superb speakerphone second to none. It also gets great reception. Incoming call quality is always better on Nextel then outgoing. Sometimes you can hear them crystal clear but they get choppy reception. The screen on the phone is by far the largest non-color screen i've ever seen, and works great for text messages and web access. Direct Connect (Nextel nationwide walkie talkie feature) works beautifully and is well suited for quick conversations where little needs to be said. This is a great feature for family or business use. The only thing i don't like about this and other IDEN phones are thier size and weight. They are far thicker and heavier then other carriers offerings. Although some would say this is a positive, for extended use, i prefer lightweight and easily concealable. Overall this is a great phone, i personally prefer the i90 flip.. but if you can't afford one, or like the bar types instead, this phone is for you.

After deciding to switch carriers from AT&T to Nextel because of the popularity of the Direct Connect the next decision was which phone. I spent many hours on the net and in different stores deciding on which model. While I like the attractiveness of the flip style I have gotten poor reviews from friends on the performance of them. After weighing cost/features/ and size I decided on the i85s. With the rebates and reduction in price I picked mine up for around $50.00. I'm enjoying the performance and its fun finding the performance differences between the AT&T and Nextel systems.
