Review: Pantech Crossover

Pantech's first Android smartphone for AT&T scores well for a newb. It combines the right mixture of features, design, and price to be a tempting target at AT&T retail shops. read review ›

A Great Choice for GoPhone Service

I recently deserted Verizon for pre-paid smartphone alternatives because I just couldn't justify the extra cost associated with contract data plans.
My first experience with a Smartphone was an LG Optimus on Virgin Mobile. A good phone but there's too many weak spots on Virgin Mobile in my area.
The Crossover is similar to the Optimus in many ways (both come with Android 2.2). It can be upgraded to 2.3 (which enables a few more apps) and has a slide out keyboard which I prefer to Swype when I've got a lot to say.
And the AT&T GoPhone service which costs a little more that VM is much better in my area (between Phila and Wilm DE).
Heavy data users would probably want a more up to date device. But for my purposes (low call volume, keeping in touch with family and business assoc. via text and email when away from a PC) it's great.
Plus I got it for $80 on Amazon with $25 in airtime credit included. Hard to beat!
Don't buy it.

When i first bought (as in, shelled out a chunk of change for) this phone, I was very excited. It was the best smartphone I'd ever seen. Everything I can't stand about the iphone was vindicated by my having this far superior phone.
Wrongo dongo.
I recently moved into a place just outside of town where i only have 1-2 bars of 3g. 2 months ago, when I moved here, I could stream movies and music on my phone with no problems. Today, I no longer can even access the internet. In other words, 1-2 bars might as well say "no service."
To add insult to injury, this phone-- which is only six months old, mind you-- now will not load web pages when I'm in service areas with 4-5 bars of 3g showing.
In other words, this phone is awesome, unlses you want to use it to access the internet.
