Pantech Flex
Phone Scoop Review
Oct 1, 2012 by Eric M. Zeman
The Pantech Flex is one of the slimmest, most attractive smartphones ever offered by Pantech. Appearances, however, can be deceiving. Phone Scoop's full report gives you the skinny on this thin cell phone. read review ›

Light but sturdy.

It had such great potential...

The Pantech Flex is a good piece of hardware. It's too bad that it is hobbled by a shoddy implementation of Android and some other hardware quirks. I find that apps freeze up or malfunction for no reason, or just plain don't work right. For example, the portrait orientation lock doesn't work at all in any apps and it constantly switches back and forth when I move my phone around in my hand. It's a shame that this device probably won't get any future Android updates or fixes. This device had great potential, it's just too bad the software support didn't keep up and its screen brightness issue caused me eye strain.
Pros:
-Thin and light
-Big bright crisp screen (see Cons)
-Quad band LTE support (AT&T)
-Fast LTE (up to 50mbps in my tests)
-Good call qualty
-Good RF performance
-Acceptable battery life
Cons:
-Screen way too bright even on lowest setting
-Some apps just randomly freeze for no reason...Probably more of an android thing... (4.1.2)
Not easy to root/unroot?
-Mediocre headphone audio quality/volume
-Too much AT&T bloatware
-USB connector on side
-Camera quality
Nice phone

Very nice phone, just the right size for my hand.
I tried the Pantech Burst and I liked it but then after trying the Samsung Galaxy S III it seems small.
I liked the Pantech apps better to be honest than the Samsungs. Also to me the Burst and Galaxy's home and back buttons didn't always work, or accept my touch.
After learning of the Flex I had to try it. It's a little smaller than the Galaxy and larger than the Burst. So far it is just right.
The Galaxy is smoother and feels nice in your hand, the Flex is sharper, harder edged and thin, very thin.
The Flex looks better in person than in pictures, the back in pictures to me is odd looking, in person it works. The dark areas are rubbery and feel nice, the lighter is hard and substantial.
The controls feel nice and though lots of reviews complain about the power button I have no problem with it, I like it isn't were my finger falls on the side, that way I don't lock the phone not meaning to.
The volume rocker is ribbed along with the power button and feel nice.
I like the Pantech apps, what can I say, I like their look and function. One thing I really like are the command buttons, they work for me, they light up when you select them and they match the android OS, the back, home etc.
The battery life so far is good, it is 5 in the afternoon and I am at 60%. With the Burst I'd be at 1/2 that, the Galaxy maybe 45 or 50%. So at this point the battery seems to be working great and holding a good charge.
It hasn't gotten hot or anything since I've had it, granted it's only been a few days.
The call quality is very good, as good as the Galaxy.
It is fast and snappy, all round a very very nice phone, I'm keeping it over the Galaxy.
Pros:
Size
Screen, bright and sharp
Battery
Apps
Call quality
Features
Cons:
Hard to find screen protectors and cases for it
