Coming from the Nexus 5 I was looking for fast performance and an incredible camera. I got that with the Moto X 2nd Gen. The smooth UI performance and buttery feel to the screen made this phone feel unreal. The camera pics are incredible. Never did I think you could capture green grass in a dark picture!

After a few weeks though certain things began to lessen my love for the Moto X. .and they were surprising. The phone form factor was too curved as it slipped out of my hands. I realized I needed a squared shape...to create that friction or hold with the hand. The WiFi began to fail as it did not want to stay logged on. The weight became more apparent in the pocket. The data speeds were not fast at all. My old Nexus was still faster in data..and its 2+ yrs old. Decision: I switched out of it. If you are looking for something comparable to the IPhone this is not it.

Pros: Amazing Camera!
Incredible display
Smooth UI.
Battery
Speakers

Cons: Connectivity
Data speed
Shape
Heavy

Coming from moto x first. Gen. I didn't like smaller screen where moto x 2014 brings number of improvements and one of the best part is customization of the phone via moto maker . Gotta love touch less control, 5.2 inch screen which is best size .

The main drawback is camera. I wish it can capture crisper pictures. Otherwise quick charge, moto pure android experience with moto tweaks makes it sweet deal.
Front facing speaker is good not the best but it's better to have one good one the front vs one on back of the phone.

I would highly recommend it especially after moto x pure edition came out and the price is more affordable now.
Get moto x 2014 pure edition for faster updates and flexibility with carriers.

Extremely fast mediocre phone

Ok, so I am coming from an HTC One M7. This phone seems to be the best Android device ever created. I will start by saying I got the bamboo backed model. I mean, how could you not, such a talking point. The phone is very fast too, fast enough to face unlock in seconds, run multiple apps quickly, play videos in chrome browser with no lag on the web page or the video itself. Also, with Kit Kat 4.4.4 It auto installed almost every app, and had all my WiFi passwords stored. That is where the love affair ends.

First of all, lets discuss the battery. When I start the day, I usually use pandora, and check a few web pages. I literally lose 10% of my battery before I get to work. It is lunch time, and I have to put it back on the charger, because I am already down to 50%.

Secondly, the camera, Every other carrier out there has all sorts of bells and whistles on their cameras, Face recognition, auto focus, low light adjustments etc. You get none of that. Just a very basic camera interface, there is a few second lag from when you hit tap the screen to a picture being taken. Most of the time, when you tap the screen you bump the phone, which makes the image blurry. Terrible compared to even my HTC sensation from two generations ago.

Third the audio, Honestly, I was spoiled with my beats audio in my M7. This can be loud with it's front facing mono speaker, but if you turn it up too much it distorts. It also doesn't have the EQ that the M7 did. It is fully average.

Stock android is ok, but I miss things like conversational texts, and blinkfeed (which is HTC only I get that) The OS reminds me of my old T-mobile G2.

Overall, I am going to take this phone back. If this was a midrange phone with a quad core 1.8 it would be fine, but this is a flagship phone. I have higher expectations. It looks nice, but it is mediocre in too many areas to keep.
