Low cost, good, but not great, starter phone
Carrier: Verizon

Have had this phone for about 6 months, use as primary phone, no landline. Android v5.1.1.
Pros:
* $170 low cost new with Verizon Wireless.
* Adequate as starter 1st time smartphone, if not have more than say 25 average size apps, in addition to apps already pre-installed on phone. My primary purpose of phone was having a handful of apps to use in transit i.e. check train status, weather, etc.
* Text on screen larger than average 400 x 800 dpi, better than most smartphones, good if person less than perfect vision.
* Great battery life, 1 hour of talking uses only 10% of battery, was once able to use for full 8-hour work class without recharging battery. This is assuming screen is off most of the day. On low use days, battery has lasted 2 days without recharging, but typically need to recharge at end of day.
* Conversations are clear both ways if not using speakerphone, but dependent on reception(wireless) and caller's phone.
Cons:
* Only 8GB of internal memory, which nearly half is used by the phone's operating system. Suggest removing or disabling preinstalled apps not needed. Also suggest frequently clearing phone's cache.
* Cannot use phone as a scanning device at store checkouts, etc. (what not get for $170).
* May be just my phone (a bad one in this respect), but problems with speakerphone. Quite loud on my end even at lowest volume setting, but some callers have complained not hearing me if phone more than 1/2 arm length away.
* Difficulty seeing what taking picture of on phone screen when take pic in bright sunlight with no shade around, i.e. beach. In my case, phone has protective gorilla glass which overlaid privacy protector i.e. 3M which has helped to some extent. Also sometimes difficulty focusing with camera so pics not come out blurry.
* Interface good, but Back & Close buttons not always work when phone attached to charger.
Tip: Restrict Google Play Store from pulling background data (Settings icon, Data Usage), will save much on your data plan.

I bought this phone at Best Buy in April of 2015 it came with a free Best Buy $25.00 gift card to be used towards the purchase of a phone case but they did not carry/sell any cases for my phone.
Overall I have I'm very satisfied with this phone its features and durability I actually dropped this phone on the concrete floor my garage & purposefully slammed it on the kitchen counter while arguing with my other half & the phone is still 100% intact no damages, no cracked screen whatsoever, etc.
I mainly use the phone for texting, surfing the web & playing Facebook games. I have been able to apply for jobs online & submit attachments like a resume & cover letter with no problem!

Size of the phone is wonderful. Battery life has alot to be desired. Processing is quick. The biggest failure on the overall phone is the camera. Less than 30 days, the camera said, failed. The soft reset, the hard reset didn't work. Boost mobile was worthless for help. And told me I would have to buy a new phone. I don't think so. And later on when I do, It won't be a Samsung. They really need to do something about their camera failures!
